The Lakers have entered the bidding for Steve Nash, according to a source.

In order to acquire Nash, Los Angeles would almost certainly need to execute a sign-and-trade with the Suns.

Ramon Sessions, Jordan Hill and Matt Barnes are all free agents.

  • You ain't the boss of the freakin' bedclothes.
Why would the Suns do that?

Do the Lakers still have that Trade Exception? That might work, with some picks.

Why would the Suns do that?

For the same reason that Cleveland ended up working a sign-and-trade for LeBron.

If the Lakers throw in a pick or two, would you rather lose Nash for nothing to Toronto or lose him for a pick and a big trade exception to Los Angeles?

Good thinking. I had completely forgotten about that trade exception.

  • Rondo doesn't believe in easy buckets...
Kobe and Nash eh?

I wonder how good of a spot up/corner shooter Nash is.

Did they use it to get sessions?

They sent Luke Walton there as a cap makeweight to avoid using the trade exception ... if I am remembering that correctly.

Yeah I think you're right who. That trade exception isn't getting a lot of press.

Nash/Gasol/Bynum vs. Kobe would be interesting to see develop.

I wonder how good of a spot up/corner shooter Nash is.

I think he'd contribute more than that, but Nash would probably be the best corner shooter in NBA history.

Nash is close to shooting a 50/40/90 for his career, which is unreal.

somehow I'm not picturing Nash in LA at this point in his life.

Kobe is just such a ballhog ,  I would be miserable as  PG having to listen to all his garbage.  I really would wish this mess on Steve

He'll be in Phenoix, or go to Canada.

What happened with Lebron and Cleveland and also Bosh and Toronto is not applicable here because both those guys didn't need sign and trades to get to their new teams.  As a result, Cleveland and Toronto weren't in the position to ask for more than the low first round picks that they got.  With Nash, the only way he can sign with the Lakers is for Phoenix to participate in a sign and trade.  For helping out a conference foe along with a franchise icon, I think they would ask for more.
