Without question, great move.  Now let's hope it becomes official.

Meh..

I still remain unconvinced we weren't better off using the MLE to get a big.

I look at it like this--Allen+MLE big>Allen+Terry+scrap heap big

Maybe we were never getting a big for the MLE though anyways.  Maybe Allen was gone already anyways.  This was just not my preferred outcome, it was more plan "B".

My old roommate is a die hard Mavs fan. He says all the talk on the local sports radio in Dallas is that Dallas won't match.

Also that Dirk will likely ask for a trade if Deron or Dwight isn't in Dallas this season. He only has a couple seasons left and has made it clear he wants no part of a rebuild.

Who is the "MLE big"?

Camby?  Too old and brittle.  J.J. Hickson?  Sucks.

Humphries?  Ilyasova?  Kaman?  Not taking the MLE.

I would have preferred a young, athletic, starting big with the MLE.  However, I don't think that player is out there.

To me anways, yes, Allen+Camby>Allen+Terry.  Addresses the team's needs better.  Camby is still absolutely worth the full MLE.

I have nothing against Terry.  He was my first choice, by a wide margin, if Allen left.

not sure. Terry is a great 6th man. He's also an undersized 2 guard who is 35. I wonder how good he will be in 2 years.

My main concern is making sure we have a decent front court.

Yeah that's the catch. There really aren't many MLE quality bigs out there. Camby probably isn't being very committal. Sounds like he prefers Houston, NY, Miami. Hickson is a downgrade compared to Bass. Humphries is probably too expensive. And then Beasley might be too much of a maturity wildcard, if you already have a Bass, Green, Sullinger platoon at the 4.

I want to wait and see if this effects Boston's chances of signing Ray Allen first.

If it means Ray goes elsewhere ...

If Ray does decide to leave ... Does that mean Pietrus is more likely to return? With Terry here? Or does Terry's presence stop Pietrus from re-signing too?

Will be hard to prove the correlation, Ray could have left without us signing Terry. Then what?

This is a great deal for us in my opinion. I know people like to tout the we need more big weakness, but I've always felt our biggest weakness was lack of playmakers and ballhandlers on the floor.

As much as I love Ray, Terry will be easily the better fit. I do think we should bring back both though.

We still have Daniels and Pietrus as possible people to sign, so we'll see how it goes.

I believe that Ray will all the more stay in Boston with the imminent signing (is it now official?) of Terry. Ray will be more comfortable playing alongside Terry at PG since the scoring task load on the guards will now be between them. With Rondo, he has to make that extra effort to create his shot if Rajon does not hit his jumpers regularly.

Bench scoring and rebounding killed us last year.
