I'd move Bass + a future first + JJJ + E'Twuan (can we trade him before the 2nd year on his deal becomes official?)

I'd try to hold on to AB, but I realize it might not be possible.

This deal is probably the closest thing that Atlanta would want. I think it would need to come in a three way trade, Bass might not make a lot of sense for Atlanta.

Houston has better options of players than Boston and Houston is in the Western conference so Hawks dont have to face him lol
C/PF-Horford, Baynes, Noel, Theis, Morris,
SF/SG- Tatum, Brown, Hayward, Smart, Semi, Clark
PG- Irving, Rozier, Larkin

Sorry to beat a dead horse, but doesn't KG want to go back to PF? That doesn't leave room for Smith, whom I assume would expect a starting gig.
KG will do what's best for the team.

Yes Houston can put together a much better trade package, but they may be spending all their assets on Howard soon.

Boston is a long shot to get Smith, but its worth inquiring about.

True...but Smith can Play SF.

Hows this for a starting lineup:
Rondo, Pierce, Smith, KG, Center ( Camby maybe )

I'll counter by keeping Melo and the future 1st and instead sending Atl future 2nd. When you consider what Atlanta received for Johnson, receiving Bass, Bradley, and a 2nd, for what will be a disgruntled Smith, will look like they hit the jackpot.
Well, the deal ATL is making to send out Johnson is probably the best they could do.  Nobody is going to give up any talent for an albatross contract like Johnson has.  Honestly, this deal is fairly decent for ATL, just by getting out from underneath the contract.

Unless Smith demands a trade to a specific team, ATL still has some leverage though with Smith.  He only has one more year and then his contract is off the books next year.  They'd be better to just let him expire than trade for bad contracts.

Now, I'm not saying Bass at around $7-8mil would be horrendous, but ATL could surely get better talent for that money if they are going to take that amount of money back.

I think Houston is a frontrunner to land Smith.

They have expiring contract in Kevin Martin (he could fill a hole at SG) and can offer a couple of young players (White, Jones, Patterson)+ draft pick.

Edit: Btw, Atlanta could offer a decent package around Horford to try to bring Dwight home. Not going to happen though..

Yeah, I highly doubt having to be the starting C again would be reason for KG to scoff at the possibility of playing next to Smith.  A KG/Smith starting front-court would be really good.

I agree Houston has the best assets to land Smith but i think he's off their radar because of Howard and I think they only wanted him as trade bait to get Howard.

I'd do Bass + Sullinger OR Melo + Charlotte's 2nd round pick + a future 1st.

That would be awesome.

Fafnir said that KG will do what's best for the team, and I tend to agree—and with the way he played C for us last season, I'd certainly LOVE to have him manning the middle again. There's just a small part of me that wonders if he actually WOULD do it again, this time for a full season.

But yeah, that lineup listed above is fantastic; I didn't realize Smith can play SF. And of course, no lineup is hard and fast—depending on matchups, you could have KG at C and Smith at PF. I wouldn't want to give up Bradley, though.

Bos sends: Bradley, Bass,Melo and future 1st
Atl sends : Smith

Does anyone else think that is too much?

For me, it's Avery Bradley's inclusion in the deal. I think you need to either take Bradley out or put less in the deal alongside him.

That trade just isn't worth it to me, too much for my taste for a guy like Smith.

Yeah, that deal just doesn't sit well with me.

I think you could include SUllinger and it still probably wouldn't be "too much".  But I'm not as sold on Avery Bradley as everyone else is.  I think he has a Jason Terry-level ceiling.  Yes, I know they are totally different players, but that's the ceiling for 6'2 180 pound shooting guards.

Anyhow... why would Josh Smith be next?  His contract is fine for teh amount of production he gives a team.  They just dumped their albatross contract... whats the point in also dumping Smith?

I get the logic that Smith will want out.  Meh... I guess that's true.  Adding Devin Harris probably isn't going to change his mind, right?  But seriously... doesn't this take all the urgency off Atlanta to deal Smith?  Didn't they just solve their financial crisis?  Why give away two allstar level players for nothin?

That's a pretty good ceiling. But his real ceiling is Joe Dumars, which is even better.

Does Atlanta need to trade Smith right now?

Hawks unloaded Williams and Johnson, freeing up a lot of cap space for 2013-14. Smith now gets a lot more touches in that lineup, and the deals they've made haven't made them much worse than what they've always been: a bubble playoff team in a top-heavy conference.
