I hope he signs.  We need to use the MLE on something other than a backup SG.

Anybody in mind with the MLE ?

Kaman

Make this all happen Danny, I think we're a two seed if everyone comes back and we add the Dutchman

I would LOVE to resign ray and use the MLE to sign kaman

Rondo/Moore
AB/Rayray
Pierce/green
Bass/Sullinger
Garnett/Kaman

is a pretty deep and solid team

It may be a lot for Ray at his age, but probably no more than they'd have to spend to land an equivalent substitute.  Also, Ray's worth a premium for the salary cap benefit over someone else's FA.

Certainly if he were to resign it would be understood that the statute of limitations had run out on pouting about Bradley starting.

It's probably good for Danny to put his best offer out there immediately, so he can get a quick yes or no and move on.  Waiting on Ray while everyone else gets snatched up would not be a good thing.

Yep.  I think one of Danny's free agent mistakes in this title era was waiting so long on James Posey.  It left us less able to fill out the rest of the roster.

Chris Broussard tweeted this one on Twitter.

I think 2/12m is alright? Your opinions?

I want to make a fake Chris Broussard account and tweet only true, verified reports.

So long as we don't spend over $74 million total (after using the MLE), then yes, we can offer the full MLE ($5 million per year, up to four years).

God, I hate the cHeat!!!!!!!!!

First the unsavory, duplicitous collusion (which no doubt involved the cHeat organization) that brought the unholy trinity together in the first place along with the Wade rip of Rondo'st elbow and his cheap shots in general coupled with the biases for them by the legue/refs/ESPN.

And now, trying to steal away of one of our players by taking advantage of Ray's ego and his anger at the Cs. (He's an athlete being paid millions to play a game. He was the subject of trade talks on numerous occasions, and felt unloved. BOOHOO. Get over it Ray, that's part of the business!)

I saw this coming when Allen, Wade and LeBroid had that lovefest on the floor at the end of game 7 of the ECF.

This is kinda like you p---ing off your girl friend , and to get back at you she goes and sleeps with your sworn enemy who was also her sworn enemy.

You have too much class, Ray, to do this.

P.S. He will swallow coming off the bench, because Wade is an established star and AB?....who the hell is he?

Hey Ray, he's the guy, if you become a cHeat, who will be in your jersey smothering you and blocking your shots.

Won't come to this. Ray wont do it.

I agree with this post 100%.  It seems like a lot for Ray at this point, but since it does give us the flex for the MLE I guess it is ok.

If we let RA go, the thing I would miss most is his clutch shooting.  He adds a scoring option that teams have to worry about at the end of games.  I don't know that any of the others we have been considering have that clutch-ness about them.

Hopefully last years issues were all from his injury.  crossing my fingers.

If the Cs are truly considering Ray Allen their number one priority now that K is in the  fold, they are going to have to consider giving him a third year on his deal - 3/$18m.

They have KG a third year, and it makes sense to keep Ray around for that time period if that's what it's going to take to keep him.  I really don't care if KG and RA play that third year, and if they both retire after two successful seasons, with a small buyout and like $15m in cap clogging, I'm OK with that, since it will mean extending the championship window two more years.

RA leaving for a better offer from a contender is something i can understand.
But leaving for a lower offer ...It`s classless.

Even if there are issues between him and RR i can`t be good enough reason for him to leave unless his relationship with everyone else (KG, PP, DR) is meaningless.

If Ray can get 2@$6M from the Celtics, I can't see him going anywhere else unless there are other issues.  Two possible issues have been mentioned.

I don't buy the starting-Avery Bradley question as an issue.  Ray is a big boy and I have not heard anything but speculation that would confirm this.  I think Ray would start in any case.

Now the Rondo thing worries me.  I have seen many plays where Rondo doesn't pass to Ray and there is some negative body language from Ray.  Is there anyhting other than speculation that supports this theory/rumor of an issue/rift?

Sounds to me that Ray is coming back (if the 2@$6M rumor is true).

  • Boston Celtics= Championships, nothing less.
6 million is a lot. I hope his ankle is healthy by the All Star break. I would be questioning this but it's the extra 5 million we can spend on Mayo or a Beasley type that we need.
If 5 million isn't enough to get one of them we are probably looking at:

Grant Hill
Elton Brand
Nazr Mohamed
Memet Okur
Maureese Speights
JJ Hickson
Kaman (probably command at least 8 million so very doubtful)
"We are lucky we have a very patient GM that isn't willing to settle for being good and coming close. He wants to win a championship and we have the potential to get there still with our roster and assets."

quoting 'Greg B' on RealGM after 2017 trade deadline.
Read that last line again. One more time.
