Jeff Green back playing 5v5, still favors Celtics

Yeah, Green is the key free agent now that KG is in the bag. I'd expect them to move quickly with this one.

Ideally something in the $5-7 million range, although I expect to see something like two years, $15 million. I think that'd be reasonable.

  I also think resigning Green is a very important part of the C's being contenders again next season.

  Bass/Wilcox being on the floor with Rondo made Rondo a better player because of their ability to run the court.  Green runs the court better and is a better all around player then either of them.

  Also if we want to have a rested and healthy Paul Pierce and Kevin Garnett for the post season next year  we need someone with experience who can eat up minutes at the 3 and 4 spots during the regular season.   Green can effectively play 24 to 32 minutes a game behind Pierce and Garnett while also giving Rondo a speedster who can fill the lane on the break and finish well around the rim.

I'd do the deal then.

I just figure we offered him 1 year, $9 million last year and he took it. His value has to have gone down in the past 12 months, right? At least $1.5 million? It's a weak market out there and all so he will be a top free agent, but he hasn't played in a year.

I am seeing Green (Jeff that is) in Green in my crystal ball for sure.  I am also seeing a lot of this line-up on the floor at key times in games:

Rondo
Pierce
Green
Sullinger
Garnett

That is actually a pretty long and athletic unit.  I know, I know, there will be match-ups where Pierce may have trouble with quicker 2s but going the other way, it will be easier for Pierce to get his.

I always prefer to go big over going small.  If we can pick up more of a traditional Center or if Steisma/Melo surprise, put them in for Sullinger and go even bigger.

I don't in general like to "go small", but our potential  "small" line up isn't so bad either:

Rondo
Bradley
Pierce
Green
Garnett

That is what is so nice about Jeff Green.  It gives us some really nice options for the first and the second units.

Resigning Jeff Green is the next critical step . He is our Athletic big man , we need his skills to guard certain Superstars we'll face and rest Paul Pierce.  

I hope Jeff and DA can work a deal soon.

For a guy who hasn't really done a TON in the league so far and just had heart surgery and hasn't played a game in over a year, I wonder if 4 years $28M would get it done.  That's the max I'd sign him to and I think it would be pretty fair pay based on the production I expect to see from him over the next 4 seasons.

Green is exactly what was missing last year. Healthy Jeff Green = Finals appearance for the C's. Undoubtedly. Him, Rondo, and Bradley would (are going to) be a great thing to watch.

Which is actually more important, signing Green or getting a quality starting center?  I know KG played amazingly well, but Boston was also a horrifically bad rebounding team with KG at the 5.

Signing Green is huge, both for the next 2 years and for our long term future. He gives us flexibility to battle the Heat and OKC, and a future go-to scorer to pair with Sullinger and Rondo. Melo will be our rebounding, defensive center. We can sign a vet min center as a stopgap until Melo is broken in.

yes to Jeff green (hopefully for 7 mil or less) but i'd also like to sign Wilcox if we can get him cheap. i have a thing for athletic 4's who play above the rim

Melo is not a rebounding center nor is Jeff Green a go to guy.  I would like to be wrong about this but stats do not bear it out.

The Celtics successfully replaced his role last year. 



I wouldn't give him more then one year at 3 million. 



He wasn't that good for the Celtic before this, why should we expect him to be better now?
