The Celtics successfully replaced his role last year.

I wouldn't give him more then one year at 3 million.

He wasn't that good for the Celtic before this, why should we expect him to be better now?

I disagree.  People were disappointed by him saying he wasn't the same player as he was in OKC but his production per minute was the exact same, he just played less for us.

Only area I was disappointed in is his defense, but ever new player to our team has struggled with that for some time.

He also ran the floor extremely well, something we got from no guy on the roster.

Yes.

And the Celtics were able to replace it this past season.

did we really though?? Jeff green is good for say 12ppg a night off the bench...for a team with one of the WORST benches in the league offensively that wouldve been a big boost...maybe we couldve sat Pierce more as well..

im willing to give Green the benefit of the doubt. he was thrust into a new situation with no camp to learn the C's offensive/defensive sets and having to change his role

The only people we ended up trying to replace his athleticism with ended up getting injured or weren't in the rotation or whatever. If and when JJJ bulks up and gets his rotations down, he'll even be fruitful in that aspect. But Jeff Green is proven in that way, and that was his bright spot for us. He runs the floor as well as anyone.
My pic is now, and will be Fab Melo until he posts his first official NBA dbl-dbl. This may be permanent.

He was worth 9.8 points off the bench for the Celtics (7.3 in the playoffs)

That's the key.  He has to prove himself.

And Pietrus gave us 3.5 pts per game on 33% in the playoffs.  Even if Green is no better than he was 2 years ago, that a big improvement.

Piertus came back from a concussion and I believe he had knee surgery after the season ended...He should obviously be at least a little better next year.

Bradley making through the playoffs would help.

A healthy Pietrus would have been better.  I wouldn't give him a big contract either.

well, ya I think Green is going to have to go out and prove himself...he didnt have the best year with us, and then he didnt play at all last year due to his heart issue..

but, the potential is still there IMO and Ainge obviously likes him...he will be able to spell Pierce and cut down his minutes as well as move to the 4 in small ball lineups

I think we'll see him back on a team friendly one year deal..maybe ainge tells him(kinda like tukka) "go out and prove yourself to earn that big contract"

either way, I think you're gonna have to get used to Green because I think he's ainge's next big priority in signing(and then Allen)

I'm just happy the dude's healthy. Heart conditions are nothing to fool with. But he has loyalty toward the celtics, and I hope to be seeing him back. He will help this team tremendously just by being on the court.

That we have bird rights is the issue here.  If we don't sign Green for say $7M, we can't just use that for someone else.  There is no sense in debating about whether or not he will score 10 ppg or 15 ppg.  It really comes down to him or nobody because we can't use his bird rights $$ alloation for anybody else.

For the record, I think he is pretty good.  Even if he gives us what Thaddeus Young gave Phili, I'll take it because we need it.

It effects the Celtics long term in terms of luxury tax.

A new tax that is so bad, even the Lakers are looking for ways to get under it.

Green can play in the post, can hit the three, can run the floor with Rondo and Bradley, and can guard wings very well. He's still very young and has not had a full season or training camp with us. Give him a full season with Rondo, KG, and Doc and you will see his full potential. Rondo made Bass look like an all-star, he can make Green look like a hall of famer.

Bass had a skill set that fit into the Celtics plan.  He could hit the open mid range shot.

Green is not an outside shooter.  (.337)
