  • Boston Celtics= Championships, nothing less.
I think Camby will be looking for a 2-3 year contract and I am not comfortable giving him anything more than a one year deal. So I wouldn't pursue Camby unless he accepted my teams (one-year-only).

Chris Kaman might be have similar desires. This will be his last sizable contract. He should be looking for a 3-4 year deal here and, if so, I have no interest in him.

Going back and forth on how interested I am in a one-year deal with Kaman. With his injury troubles, indifferent defense and questionable decision making. I think it's a chance I end up taking but I am not totally comfortable with it. I'd use Kaman as a backup center rather than a starter if signed.
What makes you think that about Camby? I expect him to want a one year deal because he's old and isn't sure how much longer he can play.

All I've read is that Camby ain't playing for anyone buy Houston. He lives there, has his house there, it's his home and he doesn't want to budge. He supposedly threatened that if they moved him in any trades he'd retire ala Pierce.
"We are lucky we have a very patient GM that isn't willing to settle for being good and coming close. He wants to win a championship and we have the potential to get there still with our roster and assets."

quoting 'Greg B' on RealGM after 2017 trade deadline.
Read that last line again. One more time.

Camby wants to play four more years.

Doesn't sound like a man looking for a one year deal. I don't think he can get the full four but I would be surprised if he couldn't get at least a two year deal for someone (probably Houston - where he is happy to stay).

To me you have to go after a Center and the best 2 available are either Kaman or Hawes.  KG has already said he doesn't want to play Center so you can't count on him to play there full time.

Then you need to add a wing player of some sort plus Green and maybe Pietrus.  That to me will be your team.

Nenad Krstic is another possibility, as someone raised earlier.

Given that we have the rights to him, he's actually probably the most likely of the "FA" centers....
Celtics fan for life.

No FA center needed.

KG won't cry if he plays center 10-20 minutes a game, more in the playoffs.

In the playoffs, KG wants to win. Celtics are good with KG at center.

By the playoffs, Melo will have improved greatly. Enough to earn 10+ minutes on the floor.

Center may be Sullinger's best position overall. Definitely defensively, especially against undersized lineups.

Sullinger is NBA ready, and can play significant minutes at center right away if needed.

KG, Sullinger, Melo, Steamer, Hollins? Wilcox? Kristic?

Celtics are stacked at center, and will be more stacked at center come playoffs because KG won't mind playing there as much, and Sullinger and Melo will be significantly improved over the course of the season. Especially Melo.

Spend the money on a stud SG-SF, and bringing back Jeff Green.

I think we should resign JO. He has had 2 full seasons and off-seasons to get healed up since he only play about 20 games total.

And I feel like we owe him some more money for all the hardship he's gone through!

Huh? So how many minutes is the "stud" swingman going to get at the 2/3 with Pierce, Green, and Bradley there?

Oh HELLLLLLL to the no. This is the same dude who wanted to go to the Heat in the middle of the Celtics season. He can take all of his injuries to South Beach.

JO never said he wanted to play for Miami.

As for the OP, I don't know if the Celtics necessarily need to find a true center, but another legit big man would be a welcome addition to the roster, I think. Someone with size who can play physically.

How many minutes did Ray Allen get after he lost his starting job to Bradley? He still got 30-35 minutes a game. In a 3 guard rotation, Bradley slides over to point to spell Rondo.

30-35 minutes is a major contributor, and cap money should be focused on that guy after Green and Garnett are locked up.

Too bad Ray Allen doesn't seem to want those minutes...

I think the celtics will nab Hayward or Kaman, have him in a rotation with KG, Steamer, and prob resign Wilcox or something for smallball at the 5
I don't think there will be room or money for both Hayward/Kaman and resign of Wilcox.  My choice would be to resign Wilcox as long as he can play.
Getting minutes at center would be Wilcox, Steamer, KG, Melo.

ive heard that krstic has a 2 year contract with an early termination option. do you really think he comes back to the nba? i dont think he'll make anywhere near as much money as he's getting paid in europe.

Some day I will understand the love affair that so many have with Stiemsma. On defense he can block shots, but is clueless on the pick and roll and has an extremely difficult time guarding anyone one-on-one. On offense, he has a decent set shot that he basically takes from his waist (exaggerating for effect). He should be the fifth big man off the bench at best. I hope they find enough talent so they don't have to bring him back.
