its official: Ainge blew this draft, and bigtime. This draft sucks. Very disappointed!

Anybody defend this one? Wow. Wow. He will not be in the league (or at the very least will never see the floor for us...I hope), so you may as well pick someone with upside...

really dumb pick...  kid is horrible.  can't believe we passed on james. (shakes head)

just a few reactions to Avery Bradley being picked from the 2010 draft thread

love it.

Hate it,

Kinda every expert/site rates our draft as good/solid. Okay I do agree maybe I would have picked Moultrie or Perry Jones over Fab Melo but Anderson?

Just give me a break and destroy this stupid topic, what you wanna reach with this I think we got enough opinions about this draft. Just say you don't like it but don't start a topic like this.

You remember Danny Ainge also did some very good things for us?

pff celtic pride man!

I just feel like Danny was short sited with this draft.

The way I see it he went for need and played it safe.

A lot of high upside guys available and we were scared to take the risk or put in the time.

Sullinger was a lottery pick a week ago before the red flags, a high lottery pick a year ago... this pick is the definition of your last sentence... high upside guy and we took the risk

And Melo is a project, the low risk guy was Plumlee.

Plumlee was low risk because you knew what you were getting a D-League rotation player. He was going undrafted in some mocks and would have been a terrible get for us over Melo or Sullinger. Plumlee might be in the league in 2 years...I honestly think Steamer has more upside than that guy.

I really like this draft.  Sully was a steal and if he is healthy will contribute immediately.  Melo is a project but he is a 7 foot 255 project who has only played real bball for 2 years.

Both have HUGE upsides.

Plumlee cannot walk and chew gum at the same time.  As a tarheel Alum, i have seen the Plumlees for years and they all are TERRIBLE.  Plumlee cannot get his own shot, cannot shoot from outside of 5 feet and played on a college team that does not utilize its bigs and shoots 3's over all other shots.

So lets stop with the Plumlee b.s..

Perry Jones III is a nice kid, but has knee issues and cannot shoot whatsoever.  And why would you draft Sully and PJIII in the same draft?  Sully is the better player, he is a true PF.

I personally love that people thought the Celtics would get a lottery talent at 21 and when one dropped they start to Edited.  Profanity and masked profanity are against forum rules and may result in discipline. about whether Melo was a smart move.  YOU JUST GOT ARGUABLY the most talented offensive big in the draft!!!

Mason Plumlee is terrible.  Please stop.  I have watched this kid play for 4 years and he has gotten worked by every Big UNC has thrown at him.  He cannot guard quicker players, which all are, he cannot score whatsoever, he played on a team where he was the designated "rebounder."  Nobody on Duke would ever pass to the Plumlees and for good reason.

Fab Melo right now is a far better player than Mason Plumlee will ever be.  You dont have to trust me, watch the ACC 2012 season and tell me I am wrong.

I have to say that I would have been really bummed if we took Plumlee. Melo seems no different than any other mid-late lottery big, athletic guy taken this year or in years past. He may or may not work out, but he has a good base.

I REALLY liked how excited he was in his interview to be working with KG. He was glowing. Hopefully KG comes back and shows this kid the ropes. The more I think of the pick, the more I understand it...and seriously, is anybody all that surprised?

Can I get a link with Melo loving the KG treatment?

What does it matter who is better when neither is a legit pro prospect?

Ainge should've exercised the pick next season or in 2014 and paid cash for a second round pick, 36?, if he had to have Melo. Short-sighted.

every year, posters freak out and say that our draft was a failure because we didnt get "so and so"

Sullinger was a top5 player in the draft last year NUFF said...kid can play and will contribute immediately.

Melo is more of a long term project, but if he can learn the defensive rotations he could be a nice big body in the middle

We will see on the court as a fan I want them to do well.   As a fan though I have reservations, unathletic guys scare me.

You really think Melo would've fallen to 36 without us?  That's very, very unlikely.  Mock drafts mean very little but every one I saw had Melo in the late 1st.  The consensus was that Melo is clearly a pro prospect, though whether he'll pan out and to what degree is of course very debatable.  But I don't think he drops past Atlanta, let alone out of the 1st.

Also, can anyone clarify whether we could've rolled the Clips pick forward?  Simmons was griping about this too, but it was my impression that protected picks had to be taken the first time they fell outside the protected range.

We have good staff and vets to help.  Melo has the backing of the Celtics entire organization to see him progress .  From retired vets like Bill Russell to Doc Rivers one of the best coachs out there ,  Melo will be ... ALL RIGHT !!

That's the thing, 99% of the time I'd prefer to trust the industry professional's judgement opposed to that of the casual fan at home.

As far as I know, the pick could not have been rolled over to next year.

Yeah, I never saw anything that said we could roll over the pick, or that OKC had that right, other than a throwaway comment from Gary Washburn (i.e., the least reliable beat reporter in recent team history.)

While a lot of us were wrong about Bradley and Danny proved himself completely right about that I would point out Danny isn't exactly infallible in drafting.  He has definitely shown us to wait a year so Fab and Sully need a year (and perfectly timed injuries perhaps?) before we can say anything, but I would point out last year.

JJJ

Here's some guys we could have had instead

Marshon Brooks...but hey....We get a 2014 second rounder!
Kyle SIngler
Chandler Parsons
Jeremy Tyler
Isaiah Thomas

and not a draft pick but he also lost out on this great point guard guy from Harvard.  So yes I'll wait, but I'm not giving him an A plus just yet just cause he made some picks
