  • Boston Celtics= Championships, nothing less.
Fans get too infatuated with mock drafts and highlight videos.  We'll see what happens.  Pre-Internet you wouldn't have given two craps about the celtics ending up with Sullinger and Fab Melo.  You'd be like "k... a couple late 1st rounders... is what it is"

Yes, people are too quick to judge if the picks are great or not. At this point, Ainge doesn't know himself.
Outside of the top 5 guys it's hard to predict anything even in a draft this stack.
So Danny is rolling the dice and hoping these guys can come in and give us some production in the paint-which was much needed.

People are really getting on Fab Melo's back unfairly.
Guy is legit 7 footer, has great footwork and is a good block defender. Basically an upgraded version of Kendrick Perkins.
I can't think of a better locker room for him to come into with that goofy smile. I don't know how much he'll be smiling once KG get's a word in with him. Best place of all for Melo to end up and if he's going to be a success, having KG as his mentor is the best possible thing for him.
"We are lucky we have a very patient GM that isn't willing to settle for being good and coming close. He wants to win a championship and we have the potential to get there still with our roster and assets."

quoting 'Greg B' on RealGM after 2017 trade deadline.
Read that last line again. One more time.

Pretty much. We'll see how it goes. Upside is there but so is the risk.

I just want the C's to get more athletic. These two don't fit the bill.

Can I still whine now, then wildly overrate both guys when Doc doesn't play them as much as I want, then forget about both of those and start the cycle over next draft?

Speaking of not playing them as much as people want, I wonder how 3J's playing time is looking now.

He was still being dumped on earlier this season. Many wanted him gone with Moore taking his playing time.

Let the record show that THE Walker Wiggle is thrilled with Jared Sullinger, really down on Fab Melo. Feel free to quote me on that Greg.

I just remember when Indiana picked Granger at number 17, and Gerald Green fell to us at 18 and everyone celebrating. Ever since then I stopped pretending that I, or anyone else really knows anything about the draft. Nobody knows jack.

I'm obviously trying to be optimistic here with this thread.

Heres the only thing I dont like about Melo though.  I read about his tools, about how raw he is, and also about how dumb he is.

For some reason the name I keep thinking of is JaVale Mcgee.  Not because I think Melo will turn into Mcgee, bc if he does, Danny is a genius.  But the reason I think of McGee is because he is big raw stupid guy.  The reason I did not want to Celtics to bring him in is because I do not think he would be smart enough to learn how to play in our defense.  He wouldnt do his job, and would get frustrated and starting fishing for highlight blocks.

From what Ive read about Melo, I have the same concerns.

However, Fab Melo wont be tutored by Gilbert Arenas and Andray Blatche.  So in Danny I trust.
Greg

its official: Ainge blew this draft, and bigtime. This draft sucks. Very disappointed!

Anybody defend this one? Wow. Wow. He will not be in the league (or at the very least will never see the floor for us...I hope), so you may as well pick someone with upside...

really dumb pick...  kid is horrible.  can't believe we passed on james. (shakes head)

just a few reactions to Avery Bradley being picked from the 2010 draft thread

I remember a thread about how drafting Rondo when Marcus Williams was available was the biggest mistake in the history of the franchise.

  • Rondo doesn't believe in easy buckets...
I just feel like Danny was short sited with this draft.

The way I see it he went for need and played it safe.

A lot of high upside guys available and we were scared to take the risk or put in the time.

Sullinger was a lottery pick a week ago before the red flags, a high lottery pick a year ago... this pick is the definition of your last sentence... high upside guy and we took the risk

And Melo is a project, the low risk guy was Plumlee.

I have to say that I would have been really bummed if we took Plumlee. Melo seems no different than any other mid-late lottery big, athletic guy taken this year or in years past. He may or may not work out, but he has a good base.

I REALLY liked how excited he was in his interview to be working with KG. He was glowing. Hopefully KG comes back and shows this kid the ropes. The more I think of the pick, the more I understand it...and seriously, is anybody all that surprised?

I remember this vividly - tp for everything you said. Was there anybody who wasn't excited about Green falling to us?
