So we are trying to move up, and the guys on RealGM (two of whom are respected posters) are saying they have heard the same whispers about moving up into the lottery/late lottery.

If Rondo isn't moving, and KG is retiring, our best bet is to get something for Pierce-as far as a business move goes.

I guess the two most likely scenarios would be:
*He goes to Golden State for the 7th pick
*He goes to Sacramento for the 5th pick.

Both of these would probably include extras like Avery Bradley or least one of our two first round picks, JJJ etc.
I'd also think that to sweeten it he may take on a bum like Biedrens and his salary with all the room losing Pierce would create.

I'm getting a bad (yet excited) feeling that Pierce might be gone while he's still got lottery value.
We lose Pierce's scoring, so who does Danny go after then? A big or a small forward? Harrison Barnes or Drummond?
"We are lucky we have a very patient GM that isn't willing to settle for being good and coming close. He wants to win a championship and we have the potential to get there still with our roster and assets."

quoting 'Greg B' on RealGM after 2017 trade deadline.
Read that last line again. One more time.

Lesson 1:  The "insiders" on RealGM are almost exclusively full of crap.  Other than the one guy who was friend's with Big Al, when has one of those "insiders" ever been even close to correct?

I think it would be a bad idea to trade Pierce.  Regardless of the wisdom of it, though, Golden State doesn't have the cap space to absorb Pierce's contract, meaning that we'd have to take back either Richard Jefferson or Andris Biedrins, both of whom are on two year deals.

I think Ainge is capable of trading anyone, if he feels it's a move that will benefit the club.

I don't see any offer from Golden State as being beneficial to the club. Boston would have to take back a bad contract with the pick.

I could see a possible deal with Sacramento.

The Pierce-to-Golden State scenario has another layer to it; GSW doesn't have the cap room to just absorb his contract.

The most likely trade would be:

Boston sends: Paul Pierce, our 1sts
GSW sends: Richard Jefferson, Dorrel Wright, #7

and I gotta say, me no likey that.

I'd have to think that we'd get to keep the picks in exchange for taking on those contracts. That might tilt the trade back in our favor.

Roy, there are two guys there that are fairly legit when it comes to 'predictions' or news regarding trade time and the Celtics. Before Celticsblog it was the only C's forum I visited and one of them was right on the money with the KG and Ray movements- it was scary and I thought the exact same thing about them as you described before it happened.
We take on Biedrens most likely.
I just wonder if the Pierce to Nets trade was blocked by Pierce he'd just do the same to the Warriors unless he'd actually play in California- which is why SAC and GSW are the only likely partners in this case.

Maybe. I guess.

Still not the home run I'd like. I'm not going to easily get on board for 2 years of people trying to tell me Richard Jefferson isn't hot garbage on a summer day.

Not at all. Wright I can get behind a little, especially if it means we get one of MKG, Drummond, Robinson or Beal, but Richard Jefferson? He's mayonnaise ice cream, he's a paper cut at 9:15 AM on a monday. He's the opposite of Batman.

I don't think GSW would trade the 7th for 2-years of a disgruntled declining Pierce.

Pierce+ 21st pick?

Pierce+ Bradley for 7th and 30th picks?

Well, it probably wouldn't be 2 years of a disgruntled Pierce.  It'd probably be 2 years of wasted money on a retired player.  I can't possibly see Pierce playing there, when he could just retire and collect his money anyways.

But yeah, I just can't see GS (or any lottery team) trading a pick for Pierce.

He just can't retire and collect his money.  He doesn't have a no trade deal and I doubt that GS would amnesty him...

I hope not.. I love Pierce been my favorite player for 11 years now. Really hope he doesn't go. Want him to retire a Celtic and go out on his own terms. I LOVE Rondo as well but if Danny feels like he is our key to getting more pieces to contend next year or opens the door for something like Dwight coming here then i'm for it. But lets see what happens tonight. I feel like something is coming because its been pretty quiet since the report came out saying we are looking to get into the lottery.
