Sorry if there is a topic about this already...

An interesting article on Grantland between Ford and Simmons picking the first 22 picks of the draft. They have the Celtics taking Tyler Zeller and Jared Sullinger. I had been under the impression there was no chance the Celtics hold onto both picks, but after reading this maybe there is a chance?

Quote
Having said that, isn't Sullinger really a much more polished, saner version of Big Baby Davis, only if Baby could score on the low block and rebound more consistently? Don't we have a few years of evidence that Kevin Garnett thrives playing next to someone like that? Maybe the Sullinger experience wouldn't work for every NBA team, but playing that Big Baby role for a slower veteran team like the Celtics? Absolutely.

And..

Quote
FORD: If Sullinger is your guy at 21, then I'm going with Tyler Zeller here with Boston's 22nd pick. Mostly because I want to see what swear words you are and aren't able to use on Grantland. But c'mon. He's gotta be better than Greg Stiemsma. Right? And he can play right away and he runs the floor very well. You gotta like that, right?

Thoughts?

they'll both be gone before the C's pick.  If they get either right I'd be amazed, particularly Zeller.

  • I'm a Paul Heyman guy.
I like the Tyler Zeller pick. I would be stoked if he falls for us at 21. The dude is a perfect fit for this team. Will defend, rebound, play tough and can finish underneath. Not the most athletic or strong big man in the draft but would do his role and then some, and we could use that.

Don't get the Sullinger pick though. We'll be overloaded with PF's.
2019 CStrong Historical Draft 2000s OKC Thunder.
PG: Jrue Holiday / Isaiah Thomas / Larry Hughes
SG: Paul George / Aaron McKie / Bradley Beal
SF: Paul Pierce / Tayshaun Prince / Brian Scalabrine
PF: LaMarcus Aldridge / Shareef Abdur-Raheem / Ben Simmons
C: Jermaine O'neal / Ben Wallace

I dont see Zeller going past 15... Sullinger maybe because of the red flag. thatd be a pretty good draft though

Not really interested in Zeller. I suppose he'd be serviceable.

I'd be a bit disappointed if Danny couldn't get someone better though.

I'm thinking he'll go before the C's picks anyways.

If Zeller slips i'd be pumped. I think he could come in and start right away for us and average 10/10.
DKC:  Rockets
CB Draft: Memphis Grizz
Players: Klay Thompson, Jabari Parker, Aaron Gordon
Next 3 picks: 4.14, 4.15, 4.19

I agree, I think Zeller has a very similar game to Andy Varejao.  Which at mid first round money would be a bargain.

I don't see the similarity in those two.

Really?  Physically they are very similar.  AV listed at 6'11 260 LB, Zeller listed at 7 Foot 250 LB, im sure once he gets on the pro workout routine he will put on another 5-10 pounds.

They are both very effective rebounders.  Zeller averaged almost 10 rbs per game even with the ACC DPOY lined up next to him on a night in night out basis.

Both have very quick feet on the defensive end.

Both have complementary offensive games which in the NBA will rely on layups and putbacks.

The best thing about this article is that it shows how crazy tomorrow night is probably going to be.  There are so many ways this could play out, many trades that could go down.  We could be sitting with Nicholson and Harkless (which would be fine) or with White and Sullinger (which would be good) or with Perry Jones 3 and Zeller (which would be crazy).

I'd be really happy if Zeller were one of the picks and happy if Sullinger were another ... that said, both won't get to us.

I'm down for Royce White (powerful, athletic) and Fab/Festus (trade down if needed and take a true 7 footer with prototypical size and whatnot). That was we get a 3/4 and a 5.

I don't think Zeller is all that quick and I question if his athleticism matches AVs.

I'm also confused by the complimentary bit on offense. Zeller was UNCs go to scorer in the half court.
