In my opinion, the most direct path to the Celtics becoming a contender: Tatum makes another leap into true, consistent top 5 player.

I would love to see Tatum take the next step!! But, there are teams out there right now that are Stacked! The Spurs are on another level and truly deep. Hell, the Knicks picked up D Knecht! That was a great low-risk move? I was hoping Brad would have done it!! But, Brad doesn't take chances like that, not sure why? My opinion, Tatum has to take the next step and we need to take some chances on players when they become available.

You have to get lucky in this league. Shai Gilgeous-Alexander for example, who knew? But, Brad just sitting back and watching won't get it done, at some point we have to take some chances.
JB was not taking a chance, quite the opposite.  Gotta be willing to spend and hope you get lucky.
Brad acted like if he didn't trade JB the world would end. Probably more behind the scenes than I know? But, now trying to find the next breakout star to add to Tatum.  You may swing and Miss on someone, but you gotta swing or you will stay middle of the pack. Just how I see it.

I will also add this, there is a player in the league right now that is going to shock people and become the next big breakout star! Who is that? that is what scouts are for, try to find that person and go after them. You see it every year, you have to at least try and be the team that gets lucky.
Falling in love with your own bench players is dangerous!! Look at the bench of every team in the league, try and find the next big surprise player. Here is a hint, he probably is not on our bench.

Or you know...Brad could have packaged Brown/Hugo/Baylor/picks for Giannis + Portis. Pick up some ring-chasing vets. Team would have been a contender in the East. 76ers do not get strong without JB.

I just don't know what he sees in Baylor and Hugo. They both look like stiffs. Nothing promising at the moment.

Like being named to the All-NBA First team 4 consecutive years?

At some point you have to blame the performance on the court on the players on the court. Every loss is not the coach's fault and every win isn't because of the players.

Yeah it sounds like the Heat wanted Brown + 3 firsts + Hugo + Baylor.

It DOES make team construction tricky and Giannis hasnt exactly been a paragon of durability, but its just hard to imagine those clippers picks and extra financial flexibility REALLY pulling us closer to contention than a Giannis-Tatum front line would have.

I think a leap would have to be to multiple time MVP, like Jokic, Giannis, SGA, and someday, Wemby.  I'm not sure that JT has that in him.

personally I think Brad should've gone all in on Giannis. who is to say that the cost for someone not as good as Giannis wont also be just as high? two top 10 players who actually would fit well together.

I mean even while shooting like garbage from 3 tatum is top 5 in pts averaging 27.9, 6.3reb and 8 assists a game. I mean if thats not top 5 right now what is.

if his 3 ball gets back to 35% hes probably averaging over 30ppg

I think this is the better way to put it rather than believing Brad said no when Milwaukee asked for Hugo and Baylor. If his mindset was *whatever it takes* Giannis probably would be here. Whether that would have worked out we will never know.  The window wouldn?t have been long but it would have been exciting. As is it may work out well.

And Tatum is top 5 if you can?t name 5 better. Wemby, Jokic, Doncic, SGA.  I don?t think Giannis is and I?m not sure about SGA.

There's that whole argument about Cade Cunningham being up there
