I like Josh Smith I think he'd be a great fit here, but we still need a center because KG should not be playing big minutes at Center during the season.

That being said my problem is not with Royce White needing the ball to score or being a suspect shooter (although those are issues).  Two  main reasons he's a poor fit

1) Free throw shooting this guy can potentially get fouled a lot he's not gonna be able to stay on the floor in games if his free throw shooting is a liability it kills a full third of his effectiveness at a pro level.

2) Defense, all the write ups I've seen on him suggest he is a disinterested defender and lacks lateral quickness to defend on the perimeter.  One site actually called him a "liability".  Lebron, Kevin Durant and those would eat him alive and Danny has of late been drafting people with huge upside as defenders or already accomplished ones.

Why do we want him again?
That can improve Ray and Paul werent great defenders early on plus this team is sound on defense overall we need somebody that can get our offense going
"7ft PG. Rondo leaves and GUESS WHAT? We got a BIGGER point guard!"-Tommy on Olynyk

Agree 100% on the Josh Smith stuff. Strange you say we need to limit KG at center. KGs best position last year WAS center. He doesn't have the mobility to guard most 4's anymore. 3 of Boston's best 4 lineups had KG at center.

As for White I do agree on that stuff too. He will need to tone up or perhaps even lose 5-10 lbs to get quicker. But he absolutely lacks lateral quickness and footspeed. Plus his defensive IQ is lacking. People continue to write novels about his offensive versatility and why he fits but unless something happens this offseason Doc Rivers is still gonna be coach of this team next year. How does a kid this bad defensively get minutes on a Doc Rivers team?
Never underestimate the predictability of stupidity...

I don't see Rondo and White fitting in well together.  Rondo has the ball in his hands as much as any point guard in the league and White is used to controlling the ball like a point.  I'm not saying White can't adjust but the things that made White productive in college aren't set up for him here.

Then there's the shots Rondo creates for his bigs, which are usually jumpshots or alley-oops.  Neither are a part of White's game.  Could Rondo play off White?  Sure he could but Rondo hasn't moved a lot off the ball since his first two years in the league.  If he didn't move off the ball with Pierce, Garnett and Ray, all very able passers, sharing the floor with him, I doubt it's going to be White who is going to resuscitate Rondo's inner Avery Bradley.

I like the idea of White facilitating the second unit though.  That could work.

Seeing the deterioration in the Celtic's offense the last three years has been awful to see and makes me really frustrated with Ainge.  Lack of shooters, no backup point ever, Paul slowing and not getting to the free throw line much and no one else having the ability to make up for dip, lack of guys who can create their own shot; maddeningly slow pace, no offensive rebounding.

Can a rookie handle being the leader of the second unit?  I don't know.

Especially the extreme hesitation that Doc exhibits when playing said rookies.

I think he's talented but I am not convinced that this is the right fit for him.
