And we lost. Last year's champs had a front court of Tyson Chandler and Dirk Nowitzki. The two previous years, Andrew Bynum and Pau Gasol. Before that, KG and Perk, Before that Duncan, Before that Shaq, Duncan again, The Wallace Brothers, Shaq and Duncan.

To win it is best to have a "bruiser" and a "cruiser" in your starting five.  KG is a cruiser, JJJ is a light cruiser, Bass is a cruiser, so are Williams, Hollins, and Steamer. Green is a big 3...not a "big"...so leave him out.

PERK is a bruiser. So are Howard, Bogart, Hibbert, and Bynam. Frankly, the C's need somebody like that to play beside KG.

Starting center Spencer Hawes is an unrestricted free agent and, as the league source said, “There are a lot of teams interested in him. Who wouldn’t be? He’s a big man who can do a lot of things and is only 24 years-old.” Several sources have said Hawes could garner anywhere from $5 to $7 million a season.

I wouldn't go into a bidding for Hawes, but if we can add him for the lower end of that estimate  then it will be a real value signing. Just turned 24 year old 7 footer who averaged 9.6 PPG and 7.3 RPG in just 24 minutes. Would be a nice player to spread the floor, and I see him being very effective with Rondo on pick and pops.

You're right, because Perkins wasn't a big reason why OKC was even in that game, nor was he instrumental in slowing Duncan down for the conference finals.

And Tyson Chandler had no impact on last year's NBA Finals. Nor did Andrew Bynum, Perk, Duncan, Shaq, Ben Wallace, Duncan, Shaq, David Robinson.

All of the top 5 centers of the past ten years have rings except for Yao. You're totes right, Center is not a need.

Looking at the Heat and pretending it's proof of the theory is a pretty weak conclusion.

The Heat have the BEST PLAYER IN THE NBA. They also have likely the 3rd or 4th best player in the NBA.

They also have, although a bit hobbled, one of the top 15 players in the NBA, maybe top 20.

You might as well point to the Heat and say you don't need a bench, or point to the Bull's from the 90's and say you don't need a talented center to succeed.
