1. Big lumbering and skillful centers are a rare and dying breed, but not just that, every team is getting quicker and smaller. the demand for big centers is quickly disappearing because of that.

2. KG doesnt have the lateral quickness to play fulltime PF, so it would be better to keep him at center and get a younger smaller  faster rebounding PF to play next to him is jeff green that guy? maybe bring back bass? who knows. but thats what we need.

I think long term Center is absolutely a need. Jeff Green cannot play the 4 for any long stretches of time, last season was proof of this. That being said in the short term, a free agent center isn't a need but if one falls to the Celtics in the draft I would be furious if they didn't pounce.

For the short term, no, a center is not a specific need. A big is though.  Whether it's a PF or C, it has to be one.  Bass is not good enough.

Long term, yes, we absolutely do need a center.

Bass is walking so no worries there.

Apart from that, I agree with everything that's been said. It all hinges on KG though. If KG stays, a center is not what we need right now (but will need when KG retires, so if we'll take one if one lands on us this year).

If KG leaves, we're going for a future big.

Well, we have no replacement, and no means to aquire a legitmate starter, sans renouncing our FA's.  So, yeah, I'm a little worried.

Some one that is 6'10" ish that cane get about 10 boards, hit a few 10 foot jump shots, and can at least change shots in the paint should be good enough.

Bulls won 6 with a center like that. And thats when there were some REALLY good centers in the league.

Let me rephrase what you just said:

Every team is getting quicker and smaller because Big lumbering and skillful centers are a rare and dying breed. But not just that, the demand for big centers is quickly disappearing because they could not find one!

Their centers were Bill Cartwright then Luc Longley. Maybe you're mentioning the PFs of the Bulls.

Yeah i was talking about the centers. they may have not gotten 10 rebounds, left that to Grant and Rodman, but they did hit a few jump shots and changed(not blocked) shots. So if we got some one that got ten boards on top of that, it be a plus.

KG does not want to play center and his body can not take the banging and smashing of a center for 82 games and the playoffs.

I agree there are not a lot of starting centers in the NBA but that is not because teams are getting away from them, it's because there's a lack of talented centers.

The celtics absolutely need somebody who can play center, adding another PF at 6'8-6'9 is not going to help this team.
*CB Miami Heat*
Kyle Lowry, Dwayne Wade, 13th pick in even numbered rounds, 18th pick in odd numbered rounds.

teams dont win championships without legit centers or pf's that can move to the center spot.

2011 - Dallas - Chandler
2010 - Lakers - Bynum Gasol
2009 - Lakers - Bynum Gasol
2008 - Celtics - Perkins
2007 - Spurs - Duncan
2006 - miami - Shaq
2005 - Spurs - Duncan
2004 - Pistons - Wallace
2003 - Spurs - Duncan
2002 - Lakers - Shaq
2001 - Lakers - Shaq
2000 - Lakers Shaq

You get the idea.

You need a skilled big. Whether that's a center or a pf doesn't matter...perk wasn't some great offensive force, but kg played at a superstar level.

I still deel like having a talented big wins in this league
