I doubt the Bobcats give up the 2 pick for anything on our roster. From what I hear, Andre Drummond (projected) is going to be a beast! If the Celtics could somehow land him, that would be great, but I don't see it happening.
I don't follow College ball, but I've read a bit and watched some videos of Drummond. He looks like a total beast. Freakish athleticism and size. He's 18 years old but already completely ripped. 7 feet 280 with a 7'6 reach and explosive as heck. I've heard him called a bigger Amare Stoudamire... but he also seems to have great timing on his blocks. I actually listened to a podcast with Chad Ford where he acknowledged that Drummond is a gamble, but that he got the same feeling and saw the same positives when he first watched Dwight Howard work out. I've also seen people say Drummond could be the next Andrew Bynum. Who knows... The main thing is that he seems to be very raw right now and sometimes lacks focus. You gotta think that having Kevin Garnett as a mentor would be a best-case-scenario for that kid... And I know it doesn't make sense (since we'd probably have to give up Rondo to get him), but playing with a passer like Rondo could allow that kid to flourish. He is quick, powerful and supposedly has great hands. I'm sure pairing him with a great point guard would be nice.
Fun to think about. Isn't gonna happen. Maybe he'll end up a bust anyways.
Independent of all of this "#2 pick" nonsense, I just want to say that I hope the Celtics somehow manage to come out of this draft with an athletic big man with real size. I'm not talking about another 6'8 power forward like Bass or Big baby... I mean a dude 6'10 or bigger who is mobile and athletic. Then, I want KG to come back and mentor the heck out of the kid. I really don't think Rondo would have ended up being Rondo had it not been for mentors like Sam Cassell, Danny Ainge, Doc Rivers, Paul Pierce, Ray Allen, Kevin Garnett, etc. We have yet to have a legit "big man prospect" for Kevin Garnett to mold into his apprentice. If there is a raw beast like Drummond available in the 20s (or 10-15 if we can package picks)... that's my only hope from the draft. Worst-case scenario... just sign Greg Oden when he can walk again.
