I am surprised at the criticism on this board for Amar'e. The guy definitely has the talent to be a franchise player and can play PF/C.

There is a reason why NY gave him a max contract back in 2010.

Granted, health is a big question mark, but you could also make the same case for KG (knee injury from '09), Paul Pierce (sprained MCL) and Ray (bone spurs.)

If Amar'e shows up in good shape and is focused, I think he and KG would kick some serious you know what for the Celtics.

I personally doubt the Knicks trade Amar'e to Boston for Ray and Bass

Amare's injury history is a lot more serious.

His contract could not be insured.

Phoenix wouldn't give Amare a long term contract because they thought his body would break down 3 years into the deal.

After seeing his health problems continue to worsen since then ... just too risky for my taste.

I actually think NY would think about that deal to get out of Amare's contract.  And that's all you need to know about why the Celtics shouldn't do that deal.

So NY wants out of the contract, yes partially because it is big (and we make them pay for that getting a 2014 first) probably more so that Melo and Amare dont mesh.

You're not going to get Josh Smith for Ray & Bass, nor Blake Griffin.

In this scenario the C's get a legit PF/C that is all star capable.

I'd do the same deal for Al Jefferson but I dont see Utah trading him.

Not sure I am following you. Upon a trade, don't all the players involved receive physicals? If so, then if Amar'e has these serious injuries everyone is referring to, wouldn't it prevent him from passing a physical, thus voiding a trade?

His history is so bad, the Knicks could not get his contract insured.  That's hard to do in the NBA.

It is interesting.  As others have said, Amar'e is a health hazard.  On top of that, he's a pretty poor defender.  We'd have to believe that KG could turn him around.

That said, him running with Rondo, Bradley, and Green would be scary, and it certainly would give us a go-to scorer.  Furthermore, assuming he could stay healthy, a core of Rondo, Bradley, Green, and Stoudemire might be enough to entice another superstar to come when Pierce and KG expire.

Still, NY would have to want to dump his deal.  Otherwise, they should simply aim at trying to sign Ray and/or Bass as free agents.  They could have Stoudemire and one or both of them.

I really have to consider that one.

Could NY possibly amnesty him and go after Williams?

I think they already amnestied Chauncey and are you only allowed one amnesty?

Yes, they used their only one to get room to sign Chandler.

Stoudemire is overpaid. He is paid more than 1/3 of the salary cap, and is no longer all nba talent/healthy. I do not want him on the C's roster. Let him eat up NY's cap.

Wow. Lol not sure how I overlooked that one. You are both right. They no longer have amnesty.
