Forget a moment about the cut hand.

Would you sign and trade Ray ($10mm) and Bass($8mm)to the Knicks for Amare($18mm) and a first rounder?  In theory 2 bench players (important ones) for a high quality PF/C. Would need bench help at the swing and PF spot or JJJ and ETM need to step up. Perhaps sign our old friend Eddie House for 3 point shooting to replace Ray's skill.

NYK's do it because Melo and Amare pairing hasnt worked out.

BOSTON:
KG/Amare/Stiemsma
Amare/Wilcox/Green/JJJ
Pierce/Green/Pietrus/JJJ
Bradley/Moore/Pierce
Rondo/Dooling/House
+ 2 first rounders (Quis, Pavlovic)

NEW YORK:
Chandler
Bass/Jeffries
Melo
Allen/Shumpert
Lin

ROTATION:
KG, Amare, Green, Pierce, Rondo (offense +)
KG, Amare, Pietrus, Bradley, Rondo (defense +)

KG 25-30 @ C
Amare 8-13 @ C
Stiem 10 @ C

Amare 22-25 @ PF
Green 10-12 @ PF
Wilcox 10 @ PF

Pierce 20 @ SF
Green 20 @ SF
Pietrus 8 @ SF

Bradley 32 @ SG
Pierce 7-10 @ SG
Moore 8-11 @ SG

Rondo 35 @ PG
Dooling/House 13 @ PG

The cut hand isn't the issue.

The body that has been so beaten up, the long and large contract can not be insured.

That is a red flag you can not ignore.

  • Boston Celtics= Championships, nothing less.
They could do better than Ray+Bass in all honesty.
"We are lucky we have a very patient GM that isn't willing to settle for being good and coming close. He wants to win a championship and we have the potential to get there still with our roster and assets."

quoting 'Greg B' on RealGM after 2017 trade deadline.
Read that last line again. One more time.

Even if, talent wise the Knicks lose this trade, lets break down who Amare is right now. Good scorer but a banged up body, two microfracture surgeries, back problems and 60 million dollars and no insurance.

Should we do this trade with all that said...

2019 CStrong Historical Draft 2000s OKC Thunder.
PG: Jrue Holiday / Isaiah Thomas / Larry Hughes
SG: Paul George / Aaron McKie / Bradley Beal
SF: Paul Pierce / Tayshaun Prince / Brian Scalabrine
PF: LaMarcus Aldridge / Shareef Abdur-Raheem / Ben Simmons

  • Sometimes there's no sane reason for optimism
Amare still has that alluring name, a guy that came out of high school and impressed all with his athleticism and connection with Steve Nash. I know during the 10-11 season, he did quite well, but I think a lot of that is lost. Taking on that contract is a recipe for disaster and would totally stifle our ability to rebuild for the future.

At this point of their careers, who would you rather have, regardless of dollars/contract? Amare or Josh Smith? Smith is the one we need to go hard after this offseason. Maybe use the same pieces in a three way deal with Atlanta.

Just no. Even putting aside that awful contract. Any PF we put next to KG has to be at worst a mediocre defender and rebounder. I don't know if it was injuries this season but his movement and lift have been troubling.
Tommy: He's got a line about me. Tell him the line.

Mike: Everybody 60 or over knows Tommy as a player. Everybody 40 or over knows Tommy as a coach. Everybody 20 or over knows Tommy as a broadcaster. And everybody 10 or under thinks he's Shrek.

Tempting but ultimately no. Too many health issues.

Agreed.  Amare has the potential to turn into the next Jermain O'Neal. It's too bad.  A couple of years ago, this deal would have looked like a steal for the Celtics.

Yeah, looking very similar just breaking down physically at this point.

I dont think either team touches that deal. Amare's health/contract is to dangerous for the Cs to risk and trading Amare for 37yr old ray and journey man Bass would be a PR nightmare for new york.

New York wouldn't unless there was a key free agent to go after and they were 100% positive they were going to land him.

I think it should be very tempting for Boston.  I read posters saying "too much of a health risk" and "bad contract"... what do people think we're going to get?  A cheaper player who is more talented and has a clean bill of health?  That player is not walking through that door via trade or free agency.

If we're acquiring a star player in a trade, he's likely going to be at least one of, if not both of, overpaid or not 100% healthy.  Remember that Ray Allen had very questionable ankles when we traded for him and he gave us some productivity for 5 years.  We'd only have Amare under contract for 3 years.  And if he DOES stay healthy... Wow.  Come on, imagine this for a second, people.  I think we've become maybe favorites to win the title.

Rondo
Bradley
Pierce
Amare
KG

with Green off the bench able to come in at the 4 and slide Amare to the 5 would give us an absolutely awesome lineup.

AHhhh........NO...OOOOOOOOOOO ::)

Stoudemire is a "HAS BEEN" ...his body is worn out for the NBA use. His back is shot and he 'll just be a drag or sitting out like old JO was for the remiander of his years. He has a VERY VERY bad back.

He'll come off the bench a few more years "MAYBE" and he'll be cooked/end of story. He is looking for a team like the HEAT where he can get a ring while he still can add something.   He is sort a like Carl Malone at his end. ,  he is at the end looking for a ride with LBJ to get a ring. or maybe LA.

NO CARL , NO MELLO on the Celtics is a "GOOD THING" .  Money pits........both
