Where else would Bass go and start? Charlotte, New Orleans maybe..Phoenix? So I think he is better staying in Boston and come off the bench. He will get better and get a better contract with the C's or someone else after next season.

call me crazy, but I'd love to have Jason Thompson as a third big, along with KG and Brandon. Young, mobile and killed us with his jumper, when we played them late in the regular season. Ilyasova might just be to pricey. Add Stiemsma and a pick like Leonard and I'm fine with our front court. But it all starts with KG coming back...

Bass @ 1 year, $4.25 mil is a pretty solid deal. If you can KG back for ~$10, that gives you $10 mil to retain Ray and upgrade that woeful back-up 5 spot with someone who can make an impact on the boards and defensively (someone like Dalembert).

I honestly hope Ray does not come back.  One of the biggest reasons the Celtics offense goes into ridiculous droughts is because the first 18 seconds of the shot clock are used running a slow Ray Allen off of ineffective screens.

Its time to infuse some youth into this lineup, rely on Avery Bradley, and get some additional players.

If indeed Brandon Bass comes back for his player option then that's great news.  Finally the Celtics will have cap room to make some moves.

To be fair, the ball moves around pretty well when Pierce and Rondo rest and KG and Allen are in. Yeah, I'm talking about that time post-All star break when Ray finally agreed to the bench role. If he gets to be a bench player, I will definitely want Ray back.

Bass at that price is a very good deal if he exercises his option. Hopefully this is true.

I'd love to get a starting level PF to move him into a first big off the bench role.

* I really hope this is true, if Bass opts in it's easier to trade him, doing sign and trades is very complicated.

He makes so little and is an expiring.

Bass was a stud he singlehandedly kept us in Game 7 last night through the first half.

For the option, of course all of us would love him back.

I'd even be OK with overpaying him to stay on a 1-2 year deal that would have him expire when Pierce does.

However, we absolutely cannot give him a ridiculous 4-5 year deal as some other team will likely offer him.

He's a very nice player, but most of his game comes from the open looks he gets due to the attention that the Core Four draw.  The same thing happened to Big Baby, Posey, Shaq, and other who have been the 5th man on the floor with them the past 5 years.

If JaJuan Johnson continues to develop, I see no reason why he can't do many of the same things that Bass does.  Like Bass, he can shoot our to 18 feet or so; like Bass, he can finish at the rim; and unlike Bass, he looks like he could be a shot blocking presence.

So again, I love Bass, but he's replaceable.  I hope Danny doesn't do anything silly with him.

Bass would have to both be stupid and have stupid representation to exercise his player option. no way he doesn't make 6+ for 1 year on the open market. plus he would have a very good chance of getting 3 years 18+ total.

love it, he learned a lot from KG and appreciates all the teammates around him. And as all of you said, 1 year at 4.5 mil is a great deal. I always called him the anti-BBD :)

Ray had bone spurs in his ankles, and that slowed him down a bit if not a lot. You guys know that right.

As long as we don't overpay him, he's a great 6th man option.

I'm going to get destroyed for posting this but its Pierce who played the poorest. Rays defense was fine throughout the playoffs, he helped space the floor at times and he rebounded well. He fought through the injury. I think it would be fine if he came back next year, if we can get a big discount. A healthy Ray, Rajon, Bradley, and Moore is a great group that gives you lots of different options.

PP was dominated by Lebron, even more than usual. Lets face it its Mia thats in the way, besides us being in our own way. That match up isn't going to do anything but get worse for us.

KG was great. Rondo is truly getting better. I think its our hero Paul that is the most likely to let us down even more in the future.

Glad Bass is coming back.  He is a nice piece to have.

Bass at that salary would be great for us.  I think Danny will work on an extention at close to the same rate.

I sense a Reggie Evans signing.  Regardless of how the 4-5 is addressed.   If Garnett is to be re-signed, the law of diminishing returns when he's over 30 minutes is stark...Particularly if he's playing center.  A beast,....Even a limited one... At the 4 or 5 gives Garnett somebody with similar energy who will rebound at a high rate and bang.  It would also gives Rivers somebody to beat up Johnson and Bass in practice.  Bass looked passive a lot this season.  He can't be at his position.  I'm surprised Danny didn't go after Evans this season...Especially since Evans signed for the vets minimum.

I'd be OK with a big rotation next year of:

PF - Bass/Jeff Green
C  - KG/Steimsma/Wilcox

as a worst case scenario and hoping for a best case scenario of that same bench with the possibility of JJJ or a first round draft pick turning into a quality rotational player.

I think we're going to see Steimsma's bball IQ improve now with a full NBA season under his belt.

I think you aren't wrong on Pierce but you need to realize he played the two best defenders at his position (and right at the top in the whole NBA) in two consecutive rounds.

LeBron is playing at such a high level.  You aren't going to find but a handful of players who wouldn't struggle against him.  And that's being generous (the only one who will still approach his averages might be up against him in the Finals in Durant).

Pierce is still a top player at SF.
