I'm going to get destroyed for posting this but its Pierce who played the poorest. Rays defense was fine throughout the playoffs, he helped space the floor at times and he rebounded well. He fought through the injury. I think it would be fine if he came back next year, if we can get a big discount. A healthy Ray, Rajon, Bradley, and Moore is a great group that gives you lots of different options.

PP was dominated by Lebron, even more than usual. Lets face it its Mia thats in the way, besides us being in our own way. That match up isn't going to do anything but get worse for us.

KG was great. Rondo is truly getting better. I think its our hero Paul that is the most likely to let us down even more in the future.

Glad Bass is coming back.  He is a nice piece to have.
paul played with a sprained knee, healthy he'd have a heck of a job keeping up with lebron, injured it wasn't close

Shouldn't the title be changed to "Bass said he wants to come back"? He hasn't exercised his option yet. Until then.... anything can happen.

I didn't like Paul's defense but Ray didn't play that great either. Neither were healthy though, so it's not a huge surprise.

  • GOT IT!!!
This would be much needed for cap purposes. I like Bass coming off the bench. C's definitely to upgrade at that position if they want any chance at beating Miami.

If this is true i would be VERY surprised. Bass stands to make quite a bit of money this off-season... it'd be a bad BUSINESS decision to accept that option.

A lot depends on what teams have cap space.

If he's stuck with MLE offers he might be better off with another year of playing 30 MPG for the C's before he hits the market.

Isn't it possible for Bass to opt out, and resign with the Celtics for a 2- or 3-year deal starting at a modest raise above the value of the option year?

I would not be surprised if this happens. Something like 2 years, $11 mil.

It's cetainly possible.  But I have a feeling he will be leaving a lot of money on the table to do that.  And given his age, and that its not like he is a max guy, I find it hard to believe he will turn down his best opportunity to really cash in.  Particularly since the C's roster will be in flux the next few years.

i dont think you should get destroyed for saying that. He didnt play great ball. He wasnt god awful, he just wasnt consistent. His rotations on defense seemed to be poor, and on offense he was often seemingly a step behind. However, I definitely wouldnt say it was his fault we lost because as a team we could have played much better.

As far as Bass goes. If he exercises his option i would gladly gladly gladly take him back. Whether he starts for us at power forward or comes off the bench in a 6th man role he is effective with his minutes on the floor. If we loose Ray and KG however, he isnt going to get as many open looks with the jumper cause the spacing will be gone.... As a fifth option in the starting lineup, he is pretty killer, especially for 4 mil a year.

Love Bass on a 1 year deal at 4.5 mil, but we still need a real starting PF

My PF free agent wish list

1)Odom
2)Illyasova
3) Humpheries

add any of those guys and bring Green and KG back, ray already said he is not retiring so hopefully he will take the vet min to retire a celtic

PG: Rondo   / Bradley     / Dooling or Moore
SG: Bradley / Ray         /Pietrus
SF: PP      / Green       / Draft pick
PF: Odom    / Bass        / JJJ         / Draft pick
 C: KG      /. draft pick / Wilcox

I absolutely love that starting lineup and bench , especially if we can land an impact big in the draft ( Terrence Jones, Leonard, White )
rofl @ Odom did u pay attention to dis outta shape underachiever last year? odom is wildly inconsistent nd not a great defender plus has an ego iont want him anywhere near Boston next year

If he opts in, can that deal be extended for 3 or 4 years at the same rate?  I just can't see him loving being a Celtic so much that he takes a one year deal if someone else is willing to offer him a multi-year contract at the same price or higher.
DKC Seventy-Sixers:

PG: G. Hill/D. Schroder
SG: C. Lee/B. Hield/T. Luwawu
SF:  Giannis/J. Lamb/M. Kuzminskas
PF:  E. Ilyasova/J. Jerebko/R. Christmas
C:    N. Vucevic/K. Olynyk/E. Davis/C. Jefferson

  • Another undersized Celtic...
Bass @ 1 year, $4.25 mil is a pretty solid deal. If you can KG back for ~$10, that gives you $10 mil to retain Ray and upgrade that woeful back-up 5 spot with someone who can make an impact on the boards and defensively (someone like Dalembert).

I honestly hope Ray does not come back.  One of the biggest reasons the Celtics offense goes into ridiculous droughts is because the first 18 seconds of the shot clock are used running a slow Ray Allen off of ineffective screens.

Its time to infuse some youth into this lineup, rely on Avery Bradley, and get some additional players.

If indeed Brandon Bass comes back for his player option then that's great news.  Finally the Celtics will have cap room to make some moves.
I agree with your thoughts on Ray, although if there was some chance he'd sign for half of that money, or what would be equivalent to the MLE (does not exist with the new CBA?), then I'd take him back off the bench. But someone will offer him a couple years at 8mil, right? We have too man holes to fill to sign him to that kinda money or more.

Bass is a great starter for us, I hope people realize this. He truly is.
