Wow, the best player to play for Iowa State?  I don't think so.  I went to ISU and saw years and years of big 8 / big 12 bball.  White is a great talent, a great physical force, but he just isn't as good a bball player as guys like Fred Hoiberg, Jeff Grayer, Marcus Fizer, Jamaal Tinsley.

Yes he may end up as a better NBA player, but I really don't consider him one of the all time ISU greats.  He didn't stay long enough to have that big of an impact.

With a guy like White, I think that a lot of how good he can be will depend on his mentors / coaches.  If KG hangs around a couple more years and could be a good mentor, that would help Royce tremendously.  If he doesn't have help getting over the pro-learning curve I have my worries, especially in Doc's locker room...

So he's 6'8", can't shoot jump shots or free throws, has poor conditioning, legal troubles and crippling anxiety?  Where do I sign up?

Yes hes 6'8" just like Blake Griffin, cant shoot, just like Blake Griffin. Chisseled is the words used by people watching him work out. Legal issues are behind him. Anxiety is being managed. The kid benched 185Lbs, 29 times last week, hes not fat hes extreemly powerful and he has a 7'1" wingspan thats 2" more than blake griffin.

I hope he makes me look as good as Kevin Durant did when nearly all of celtics nation said he was to week and skinny for this league.

He is the best player ever to play for Iowa state period. I know iowa state isnt Kansas but he destroyed Kansas bigs along with every other big he played against this year. And he is killing the bigs during workouts now.

Royce Alexander White. Nickname.....Alexander the great!!!

I never said the best alum either.  I guess you never saw M Fizer at ISU, sorry you missed out.  He was a beast.  Big12 player of the year, 1st team all big 12 two years in a row.  Yeah siting Fizer really makes me loose cred here...haha.

No way White is a better PLAYER for ISU than Fred Hoiberg, Jeff Grayer, Marcus Fizer, Jamaal Tinsley.  I guess I assumed you knew more about ISU.  Sorry.

Are you even reading what we are writing?  Of course, I already said he may be a better NBA player in the future!  Read the post below.

The thing I DONT agree with you on was you said White was the best player ever at ISU.  That is what we have been talking about.  Sheesh.  Did you ever watch any ISU games when Grayer, Hoibert, Fizer, or Tinsley played?  I mean ever?  If you did we wouldn't be having this debate.  Those 4 were flat out great players at ISU for multiple seasons and other teams game planned against them.   Fizer was Big 12 player of the year, something that White certainly didn't do.

White had a great 1 season.  But he couldn't shoot FG / FT with any consistency.  He had a habit of the bad turnover at the wrong time, and just doesn't yet have the bball IQ that those other players had.  It doesn't mean he can't be great in the future.  But to not see his faults is silly.

I hope Royce turns into a great NBA player, I like him.  He is super talented and gives great effort and hustle every game.  I want ISU players to do well in the NBA, I graduated from ISU.  But I saw probably 15-20 ISU games this last season, and I don't know if White is a sure thing in the NBA.  He is going to need some help to become even a good rotation player in the NBA.

But he just isn't the best bball player ever at ISU.  It isn't even a question.

Liked what I saw from him today at the combine. Handles are as advertised, but I love the way he uses his body seals his defender in the post. Excellent footwork in the post too. Spoke pretty well in an interview as well.

When did I ever say college success translates to the NBA?  Of course it doesn't always translate.  I didn't ever say it did.

The only thing I am saying is White wasn't the 'best player ever to play for Iowa state period' from dmopower's post.  The other players I listed were better players for ISU.

No one knows how players will transfer their skill sets to the NBA.  Other than maybe the top 5-10 players it is a crap shoot.
I hope Royce makes a solid career for himself in the NBA.  He has unique skills, but he also has a LOT to improve on if he is going to be a solid rotation player.  Good luck to him!

"Rolls" should be his nickname.   I known he was killing Kentucky prompting Calipari to call him "Charles Barkley".

Cal knows NBA talent.   I would not mind us getting this kid.

"Fizer was Big 12 player of the year, something that White certainly didn't do."

White was a fairly close second place to Thomas Robinson, in White's only year of college ball.

  • Eagerly Awaiting the Next Fantasy Draft
Players that have had character concerns usually slip in the draft. Players with character concerns usually do best with strong veteran leadership and coaching. I think we would be the perfect team to help him through his anxiety problems and he would be perfect for our team. He rebounds, can create shots and can come in and play point forward helping the second unit out.
DKC:  Rockets
CB Draft: Memphis Grizz
Players: Klay Thompson, Jabari Parker, Aaron Gordon
Next 3 picks: 4.14, 4.15, 4.19

Just because I see the glass half full and not half emty does not mean I have glossed over his weaknesses. Even with his lack of shooting he was a better player than Fizer. I dont care what the Big 12 gave fizer. Im not going to slam Fizer to justify my opinion.

Mention his turnovers, ok. How many turnovers did the last NCAA player avg, that averaged 9.5 boards and 5 assist a game?

Even with the high turnovers, the NBA court is bigger and will be spread more and he will be playing with better tallent. I believe this makes him even better.

I also wish him well. I just wish him well, here!

Id have Jeff Green instead. I know his potential but he has baggage. Jeff Green has less potential but we already know what he can bring.

If we cant sign Jeff then yes.
