At the end of the day, I'm glad Perk got his big pay day, and I'm glad it wasn't us that gave it to him. A win-win situation

He is horrible. He has butter fingers, he can't finish at the rim, can't rebound, sets illegal screens, gets unnecessary techs, and is slow as molasses. Danny dodged a bullet by not re-signing him.

1 championship with Perk... 0 without him.

Perk was what was missing in the game last night. Just his intimidation factor in the middle alone made teams scared of us. He wouldnt have let Wade and James walk right to the rim so many times last night. As soon as Perk was traded... The Celts lost their swagger and intimidation. They no longer were the big bad celtics but the old fragile celtics and its been that way since he left.

You're really gonna use the championship argument with that?

Perk would have fouled out in 12 minutes in Game 1...and would have fouled out in the same amount of time the previous year vs. Miami as well. In those 12 minutes, he would have given us very little on the offensive end. With the way refs call Heat games now, Perk would be useless. Now, if Orlando or LA were dominant NBA teams, he might fare better.

I agree. Who needs a presence in the paint that actually makes people think twice about driving to the hoop?

do you think there's any chance they will amnesty him?  It's a lot of money to pay an overrated role player.

It depends on the team's willingness to delve into the luxury tax.

I don't see a good reason for the Thunder to amnesty him this summer.  It might get them $4m under the cap, but I don't think they get an upgrade for that much money.  They might be better off holding onto Perkins and using him as trade ballast with Eric Maynor (or Reggie Jackson) and perhaps a draft pick for a better overpaid player on a shorter contract.

If the Thunder are projected to be in the luxury tax beginning in 2013-2014, the logical, mathematical reason to amnesty Perkins would be amnestying him would get the team below the luxury threshold and Perk's projected level of production is smaller than the difference between what the team could get with the full MLE instead of the taxpayers MLE.  If Perkins remains with OKC until the summer of 2014, then he may have trade value as an expiring contract.

Yea, like he is doing so well against Manu (especially) and Parker... they NEVER drive to the paint in that series... Perk has them scared to step foot into the paint... oh wait...  ::)
It takes me 3hrs to get to Miami and 1hr to get to Orlando... but I *SPIT* on their NBA teams! "Bless God and bless the (Celts)"-Lady GaGa (she said gays but she really meant Celts)

Green was also horrible last season, and has missed this whole season. What if we got Harden or Ibaka...

Green has way more upside though. I think he just had trouble adjusting midway through the season his stats were pretty good in OKC. If anything I could see the celts grooming him to be the next Pierce (or as close as he could get). Perk is at the top of his ceiling though

Green will be fine...he has already stated he will be more aggressive this coming season and bring out some paul pierce game in him...i actually do think he is going to breakout when he next plays...hopefully its still for the C's.

TP to you sir.

The only reason to amnesty Perk is to pay Serge and Harden big money when their contracts are up (at the end of this season, I believe) and continue to stay under the luxury tax.

I like Perk even if his best days are behind him (and hanging in our rafters), but if it's a choice between Perkins and Harden & Ibaka, there's no contest.

Of course, if Presti can find a solid center in this draft that'll deliver 85% of Perk for 10% of the price, then the question gets a little more complicated.

I understand that people say it doesn't matter what Perk's stats are, but they are HORRIBLE! How can you explain 3 rebounds a game? 4 points? It's rediculous how much he gets paid to average 4 and 3.

He was (rightly) considered one of the top post-up defenders at the five spot in the league for a few years. Defense is a notoriously hard thing to gauge from a box score, especially when you're playing with dudes like Westbrook, Durant, and Ibaka. Guys that jump high and grab rebounds so you don't have to.

I think Perk's big problem is that they're aren't a whole lot of big men who bang down low right now outside of Bynum and Howard. Remember, we traded Perk & Nate for Jeff Green because the Magic were starting to self-destruct and the Heat weren't going to beat us in the low block*.

*And, of course, Quis's spinal injury left us without a real backup for Paul.

Jury is still out on that trade. Perk was brought in to stop Bynum which he did. Not many can handle Duncan even at the age of 36.

Jury Rules:  you don't pay a guy with a reconstructed knee $36 Million to stop one guy.

You get the idea.

Because San Antonio is really having a hard time scoring against OKC, right?
