I can only guess Moranis' strategy with his team, but I'd be comfortable with a "Big Three" of Mailman, DRose, and Paul in this format.

It will be interesting to see how he fills out his team, but THAT is a fine core.

That 2008 Paul won the title, but still not many players put up those numbers like Paul did in 2002.

It all depends on how Moranis wants to construct his team. But he has some nice options so far.

Just checked BBall Ref....the guy shot 40% from deep for his 1st 4 yrs, too :o

Can ANY player boast those stats?

My only issues are that of those top 3 players he doesnt have any that managed to win a title,(assuming 02 Pierce) and that he has 3 players used to being the clear cut number 1 scoring options on their teams who now have to adapt.

Yeah 2002 Pierce had a lot more opportunities to kill the stat sheet. More minutes and shots. Still he was phenomenal. No one is debating that, but I think the championship aspect to the argument is a big aspect when people start debating their teams.

I don't think it's neccessarily a 'championship' thing, but 2008 version shows someone who definitively is willing to defer to two other superstars.

Honestly Pierce didn't have to defer too much in 07-08. He got less shots but a lot of his overall role in the construction of the offense was the same. They just suddenly had KG in the post and Ray spacing the floor as threat.

We still ran the entire offense through him and KG most of the time, especially in crunch time.

Ray made the biggest adjustment by far that year, Pierce's big adjustment came with Rondo's growth the next two years.

He played more minutes because he could play more minutes, not because he had more opportunities to do so.

I don't think winning a title makes a player any better.

Dirk still got swept this year after all.

I'm also skeptical of taking worst versions of various players so they "fit" better around the best players on the team in their prime.

Dirk came in very out of shape and just wasn't the same player. He had to sit a week just to get in shape. Fact is the lockout played a part but also that team was satisfied. I watched them a lot and the urgency and hunger wasn't there all season. They were still on a championship hangover especially dirk.

Quote
As for the other spot, let's quickly address the coaches voting in Nowitzki. Call me crazy, but I don't even think the Finals MVP should get a mulligan for being totally unprepared for the start of a season. He even admitted it! Everyone knew that the lockout — if it ended — would end somewhere between Thanksgiving and MLK weekend. He's getting paid $19,072,873 this season. To my knowledge, he doesn't have a second job. He's the best player for the defending champs, who would have a bull's-eye on their backs all season. How can Nowitzki end up being blindsided mentally and physically because the lockout abruptly ended? Check out his stats: He's having the worst season since the strike season and stopped rebounding altogether. That may have been the all-time reputation-over-substance pick. He should fake an injury and give the spot to someone who earned it. Seriously. Do the right thing, Dirk.8

Quote
The difference between Pierce and Nowitzki this year: Pierce finally started looking like Pierce on January 22 (34 points vs. Washington) and has played well for basically half the season. Dirk started looking like Dirk on February 3 (30 points vs. Indy) and has played well for three games.

The thing is Pierce, Toine and a bunch of scrubs went to the ECF.  It isn't like the year we are talking about the Celtics didn't even make the playoffs.  They were a very good team that year almost entirely because of PP and AW (and just the fact that an inefficient volume shooter like Walker was the second best player says a great deal).  And sure the EC was down, but they beat Philly (coming off the finals appearance) in the first round and then took out the just coming into its own Pistons team in the second before losing to the 4K's and Jefferson of New Jersey.  Pierce is the reason for that success.

Just to join in. I thought the 02 Pierce is an elite scorer and a solid defender. Not that he was in 07-08 but the 02 was more aggressive (well of course because he's younger).

I'd take the 02 Pierce any day.

They are, kind of two different players. I think the final decision depends on who his pairing is at the other wing.

There's a 2 I have in mind that'd be perfect next to Rose and Pierce.
I am definitely curious as to who you are thinking about.

I guess my ONLY question mark for Moranis would be Bynum.

Would 2012 Bynum be comfortable potentially being the 3rd or 4th fiddle?

He probably was this year anyway.  I mean Kobe was the clear #1 and I still think Gasol was the #2 (pau still had more shots per game), though there may have been a sort of changing of the guard at some point this season.

Sent you a PM. I'll be honest, I haven't the least idea when this guy would go - I just think he'd be an excellent compliment.

He was kind of an under the radar type of guy, but he had some monster statistical seasons.
