Ok, so my post assumes we win game seven against Philly, and I believe we will. So let's say we do win game 7 - now comes Miami and we have no Bradley - here is my strategy.

1. Start Ray Allen? Nah...that's a layup line for Dwayne Wade  just like last year.

2. Start Pietrus? Nah...he's nursing injuries already, let him continue in a supporting role.

3. I start Sasha. Why? Well, he's youngish and he's relatively healthy. Let him try to get on a decent run. He also gives the starting unit some young legs with energy.

I put Sasha on James - and hope the team D helps a lot
* I back Sasha up with Pietrus
I put Pierce on Wade  - and hope he can really bother him with his advantage in height, length and strength
* I back Pierce up with Marquis / Ray

We significantly limit one of those two guys, we can easily win the series.

I'd rather keep Ray and Pietrus as part of our bench rotation.

I just think if we start Ray - Wade is just going to get rolling asap. I'd rather have Pierce put the clamps on Wade early and often, which I think he can do - and then hope team D can help Sasha out.

My main goal would be to try to stop one of Wade and LeBron and I think Wade is the easier target - especially with Pierce on him.

Thoughts?

I say break Wade's elbow, like he did to Rondo.
short term damage should be be sufficient.

ok so this is assuming we win Game 7 and Miami wins, neither of which is guaranteed, but I'll make it easy for you:

Ray Allen is starting.

TP apc, I'll take that strategy.

mctyson - you're probably right, and that's my worst case scenario against Miami. Wade will Bully Ray and it will be a layup line to the rim that will result in easy baskets, free throw attempts for Wade possibly at KG's expense and will open up easy shots for other heat players.

Last year with Ray healthy it looked like he was wearing cement shoes

  • Boston Celtics= Championships, nothing less.
We will probably try to double both Wade and Lebron.
I don't know what Bosh's status is but he'll be pretty useless for the first 2 games, although he will stretch the floor.

Watch Indiana tonight and now that Haslem is out, they will suffocate Wade and Lebron because they don't have a spot up 10-15 foot shooter without Bosh/Haslem. I'd say Doc take this approach and makes Bass suffocate Haslem.

I'd prefer to start Pietrus on Wade and Pierce on Lebron, then switch it up occasionally with Sasha thrown in to give Pierce some rest and an opportunity to work on offense.
Not too thrilled about our chances going forward after this series without Bradley though.
If it is up to Bradley whether he plays or not, he will 100% play so fingers crossed.
"We are lucky we have a very patient GM that isn't willing to settle for being good and coming close. He wants to win a championship and we have the potential to get there still with our roster and assets."

Read that last line again. One more time.

It all boils down to Lebron. If he shows some cojones, we will get swept.

But if that faraway look creeps into his eyes - you know the one - we can win.

Sorry, but Lebron and the Heat will lose to this C's squad.

Starters:
Rondo
Allen - on Wade
Pierce - on Bron
Bass
KG

If Doc gets creative, he can stick Rondo on Wade and let Allen chase Chalmers/Cole around.  All he'd have to do is rotate and close out effectively.  But, I don't know if Doc wants to wear down Rondo by sticking him on Wade.

Sub in Sasha and/Daniels to guard Wade, and Pietrus to guard Bron (Daniels can also spend some time on Bron, if need be).  Use Dooling, Stiemsma and Hollins as part of the make-shift 2nd Unit.  Play Moore only if other guys get into foul trouble.

Oh, and how about employing some 2-3 ZONE!!!  It works against the Heat because they don't have great shooters.  Should help keep Rondo rested and others out of foul trouble.

The KEY to this series will be turnovers and offensive efficiency (make/miss league).  If the Heat are allowed to run after turnovers and bad misses, then the Celts will be toast.

Start Pietrus, he's closest physically to match D-Wade, just let him learn how to play defense like Bradley..

Afterall in almost every interview Pietrus did he says he "came here to win a championship"

Well let him put his money where his mouth is.

After watching that mess last night, I can't even for a second start thinking about what will happen in the next round, and I certainly hope the Celtics aren't either.

I'll get back to you Sunday on this matter.

Interesting - I'm mainly interested in any strategy that does not have Ray Allen guarding Wade from the get go. I just think that is an absolute disaster for us and creates a massive match up issue. Wade will just waltz by Ray over and over again - as he did last year.

So, for me:

KG
Bass
Pierce > LeBron
in order of preference
Sasha /Pietrus / Marquis > Wade
Rondo
** I'd switch Pierce to Wade on D though. Let Sasha or Pietrus guard James.

I like Sasha's good health and ability to shoot from outside. Plus, if his head's right, he can do some early damage on offense and you end up with more mileage from a less often used guy off the bench, it's a bonus. I think we already know what we'd get from Pietrus, Ray or Marquis at this point.

Defensively:
Pierce / James
Sasha / Wade

...might also work actually.

I'm just going to cringe if it's Ray on Wade...

Modified zone? Pack the paint, and allow no second chances to offensive rebounds.

If there's no Bosh, force LeBron and Wade to beat you via the jumpshot. If they do come into the paint, use your fouls, and force them to make free throws.

Also, I am skeptical that Wade will put in the effort to stick with Ray on defense the way the Sixers have been.
