Overrated stats (that people constantly fall for): blocks, steals. CP3 has no business being on this list, let alone a first teamer. Rondo is worlds better at him on defense, and Bradley is better than Rondo. Ibaka is a good defensive player, but ridiculously overhyped due to his blocks. KG (who does the most defensive quarterbacking of any player in the league, imho), Chandler,  or Howard were much better defensively at the 5 this year than him. Also...yeah, Kobe being above AI is ridiculous. Kobe's not a bad defensive player (he used to be great), but AI is an elite defender.

How is Rondo on da 2nd team ova Avery Bradley? Rondo's defense is overrated

Rondo is an amazing defensive player...as a fan of this team I am not sure how you think otherwise.

Kendrick Perkins deserved some votes. He anchors that Oklahoma City defense.

Mike Conley should've been voted higher.

Kobe and CP3 deserved some votes, but not to 1st or 2nd team.

While I like Joe Johnson's game, he shouldn't be on here. Same as Boozer. JJ missed about a qtr of the season.

I guess the reasoning with AB is that he didn't play enough games...but IF that is the case, then how does that explain Joe Johnson?

Dwight Howard and Tyson Chandler need to switch spots.

This seems a bit more like a popularity contest rather than having a lot of substantive analysis. I'd like to see who voted and why they voted how they did.

Do the Thunder have a good defense though?

I'll try my best to ignore the laziest annual award given out, and try to enjoy the fact that TA finally got the recognition he deserves.

I'd say that they do.

Basketball-reference.com has them listed at 11th out of 30 teams.

With their personnel, Oklahoma should be a top five defensive team.

Underperforming badly on the defensive end this season.

Perkins problem is that there are two Cs who take up essentially all the C votes.

Deservedly so by Howard/Chandler.

Oh, I have no doubt whatsover that Tyson and Dwight deserve the votes they have, even though I'd personally switch the two.

My issue is that if JJ and Boozer got votes, then someone missed Perk.

Not really.

You vote for 2 guards, 2 forwards, and 1 C.

The guard/forward extra slot allows for more silly votes for guys like that. It looks like the only Cs who got votes other than those two were Noah/M. Gasol. (maybe some people had KG/Duncan at C but its tough to tell)

Well, OKC is still a bit inexperienced.

Westbrook could commit more defensively. Durant is not a lockdown defender, yet.

But they basically shutdown Bynum/Pau. Lakers/media just didn't give OKC enough credit for doing that.

This is why many of us here are looking at PHI and MIA/Indy as BOS's only obstacles to the Finals and perhaps a favorable matchup with Spurs or OKC. Bynum/Pau formed the best frontline in the NBA.

And Perk/Serge shut them down.

BOS could not do that, even though I love my team.

Kobe found it tough going as well. Thabo made him work, and when he did venture inside, he was often met by Perk/Serge.

Yes - for their athleticism and talent, they COULD be better defensively. But with that being said they are very good.

Bill Russell was the league MVP two seasons that Wilt Chamberlain was 1st team all NBA, while Bill was on the 2nd team.  When you have different groups voting you get different results, thus it is not surprising at all that Chandler was the DPOY but was on the 2nd Team all Defense.

This is also not the first time this has happened.  Alvin Robertson was the DPOY in 85/86, but was on the 2nd Team All Defense.  Same with Dikembe in 94/95.
2025 Historical Draft - Cleveland Cavaliers - 1st pick

Starters - Luka, JB, Lebron, Wemby, Shaq
Rotation - D. Daniels, Mitchell, G. Wallace, Melo, Noah
Deep Bench - Korver, Turner

Yuck, Chris Paul was on the first team? That's absolutely ridiculous. He is not a good defender, at least not on the level of Rondo, Avery Bradley, or Kobe (and I HATE Kobe).

I hate the media's obsession with Chris Paul. He's a good player, but nobody else gets credit for things that he had no hand in like Chris Paul does. I remember at some point during these play-offs, during one of the games they lost against the Grizzlies, towards the end of the game Chris Paul gave a frustration foul (I think on Rudy Gay, though I could be wrong). It was very obviously, both by the body language and the context of that time of the game, just because he was frustrated and the Clippers had no chance of winning that game, and it was just a bit of a foolish, headstrong, but ultimately pointless move on his part.

Obviously, on ESPN the next day all the commentators were p---ing themselves over the foul, saying that he did it because Chris Paul has a masterful feel for the tempo and momentum of the game and it was a brilliant move blah blah blah blah. It's really god-danged annoying. He's a good enough player that you don't need to make stuff up to compliment him with, I don't understand why the media literally feels he can do no wrong.

I mean, he played TERRIBLY against the Spurs, who aren't even a very good defensive team, but nobody criticized him for his stupid turnovers, sloppy and inconsistent offensive play (especially early in games), or bad shot selection. Because he is Chris Paul, and OBVIOUSLY he can't make bad decisions.

It p---es me off.

agreed, PP is a really good team defender but we have kg and rondo to marvel at, their communication , reading plays etc these are things that there are no stats for

also once bradley starts playing regularly (and steamer for that matter) you'll see both guys getting noted for good defense (in avery's case great)

Just shows you what crap all of this.

I can understand Rondo not being there.  He gambles a lot and sometimes gets burned.

But KG is a team altering presence on defense and still one of the 2-3 best defensive players in the league.  He should've been on the first team.
