As you American folks are wont to say:  This doesn't make a lick o' sense ...
Stay classy, San Diego. Hello, Baxter? Baxter, is that you? Bark twice if you're in Milwaukee. Is this Wilt Chamberlain? Have the decency to say something.

Just shows you what crap all of this.

I can understand Rondo not being there.  He gambles a lot and sometimes gets burned.

But KG is a team altering presence on defense and still one of the 2-3 best defensive players in the league.  He should've been on the first team.

If you're of the opinion that other point guards (like Paul) never get burned I'd like to dispell that myth.

How the **** did Carlos Boozer get a vote?

Because he's very defensive in general?
Because he is able to vote?
surely not for actual getting-back-on-D defense?  surely?

No.  I think Rondo should've gotten it given how things do go down.  In a perfect world, I'd rather see someone like Avery Bradley get it.

I was simply saying that I can tolerate Rondo being left off the first team.  I can't tolerate KG being left off it.

KG was awful early in the season but from February or so on I thought he was the best defender in the league.

KG's "problem" is that he doesn't put up the sexy stats for 4s/5s, namely blocks and rebounds. Is he more responsible for the defense than any of the other guys? No question. However, that doesn't exactly show up in the common stats people rely on to say silly things like "Serge Ibaka is an elite defender". Personally, I think KG was the best defensive center this year, but can see a valid argument for Chandler. Howard is great, but a little overrated in my opinion. Intelligent talented frontcourt players can outsmart him, because he's all about his physical ability.

Those of us longing to see ab on the 1st or 2nd team, I'd say wait until next year.

Give him an 82 game schedule, spaced-out, and give him a healthy body.

There is no reason, with that being said, that he won't get more votes....

BUT:

The sad thing is that with the popularity hierarchy in the NBA, all that Avery Bradley will get IS VOTES..not a placement on the 1st or 2nd team - at least for a few more yrs.

I'm guessing that Kobe Bryant will remain on the 1st or 2nd team Defense until he retires.

How is Rondo on da 2nd team ova Avery Bradley? Rondo's defense is overrated

Rondo is an amazing defensive player...as a fan of this team I am not sure how you think otherwise.
between intentionally lettin his man blow past him nd dat reach around garbage nd not contesting jumpers at times he takes a lot of plays off "amazing/elite" defense wit Rondo is ridiculous Bradley>>>>>>Rondo  defensively

Rondo doesn't intentionally let his man get past him, but when the opponent does get past him he goes for the "reach around garbage". He probably knocks the ball free about a quarter of the time, but people here would be more impressed with his defense if he didn't try and knock the ball loose. Bradley's a very good defender but I think it's the case that opponents challenge him more than Rondo, and if Rondo's opponent doesn't do anything on a given possession people don't call that good defense by Rondo.

How is the Defensive Player of The Year on the second team?
Because Dwight Howard was better but had rubbed the media the wrong way. Combine that with the usual "tired of giving it to the same guy" that media awards often have and Chandler got it.

I disagree that Dwight was better. Chandler's impact on the Knicks' defense was astronomical. Their defensive rating went from 22nd to 5th because of him!
Just because upgrading Amar'e's bad defense to that of an elite player made a massive impact doesn't mean that Chandler was a better defensive player than Howard.

Chandler wasn't a bad choice by any means, but Howard was still better overall.

Ok, you disagree, but can I ask why? You just kind of assert that Howard was better, and leave it at that.

I'd argue that Howard's play was actually very lackadaisical this year on account of his uncertain contract situation, and the stats reflected it. Orlando only had the 12th best defensive rating, while the Knicks went from 22nd to 5th.

For comparison's sake, the Magic had the 3rd best defensive rating the previous year when Howard was playing hard. Considering that Howard is the defensive leader of that team, it's pretty easy to determine that Howard had an off-year, while Chandler had a great one. That's why I think Chandler's DPOY award was well-deserved.

its a classic dj defensive move
rondo reads the floor better than most guys i've seen on defense and offense, he plays his men at angles when they are fast, he plays passing lanes, knows when to double, fakes defending lanes   he is a great defender

bradley is a great man on defender, possibly best in nba , he can harass full court and take valuable time off the clock, not the sort of defense you can play full time for a career

so our current/former starting backcourt has two guys who can be all nba defensive team next year, why argue about any of it?

Good for both of them although I'd have put them both on the first team. And I'm grateful to whoever voted Boozer for giving me a good laugh this afternoon.
Tommy: He's got a line about me. Tell him the line.

Mike: Everybody 60 or over knows Tommy as a player. Everybody 40 or over knows Tommy as a coach. Everybody 20 or over knows Tommy as a broadcaster. And everybody 10 or under thinks he's Shrek.

All NBA individual awards are popularity contests. Because they are voted by the media. I never take them seriously
