This was my thinking after Miami Thrice came together. What we are seeing though is three max guys sprinkled with average to mediocre players isn't ideal.

If you draft well, find undrafted/D-League guys or misused guys available for the minimum who can contribute, and use the MLE wisely, you can surround those three max guys with average to above-average role players.

It's not impossible for a team over the cap with late draft picks to improve.  It does hurt that they traded away a lot of draft picks, because even late first round picks have value.

They've killed themselves with their nutty idea of putting 4-5 6'8" guys on the floor and signing guys like Mike Miller and Shane Battier instead of addressing their weakness at PG and C.  Mario Chalmers hasn't been their Rondo and Joel Anthony hasn't become their Perkins, like some claimed he would become.  They should certainly be able to build a better bench than the Celtics because they can offer a better long-term scenario of contending.

Not winning one before Cleveland wins one would be less preferable, but still entertaining.

But when does that "too good" happen?  It is not like he is a rookie, or a second or third year guy (see Durant, Kevin).  Lebron has been in the league for 8 years, and is at his prime age right now (27).  So, you would think this would happen now - he is seasoned and primed.

But is anyone here guaranteeing a Miami championship this year? Or next?

Let's say they don't win...next season he's now going on 28-29.  9 seasons in the league.  And no major injuries to speak of, yet.  Getting close to 30.  He's not going to last forever, particularly with a game that relies so much on speed and power.
Jordan was 27 and in his 7th year when the Bulls first won the title.  He seemed to be fine for the next 8 years (though he took two off in the middle).

Lebron is not Jordan.
Back to wanting Joe fired.

Next year they'll have Los Nash.  Then they'll be more excuses.  This year they miss Bosh almost as much as they'd miss the messiah.  Their teams have been very poorly constructed.

The reality is the messiah and Wade are officiated in such a way during the regular season it probably nets them 7-10 wins a season...When only the rabid fan is watching....

When the person who isn't an unconditional NBA fan is watching during the postseason, Stern seems to actually worry about credibility and seems to feel the need to tighten the reigns on the officials and actually have them officiate some...There's not enough time for the messiah and Wade to adjust.

I've never been in the camp that the messiah disappears or quits.
He's simply not getting every single call in the playoffs.  He get a lot...But not all. He doesn't quit or disappear...Teams take the ball out of his hands.  He's not nearly the defensive player he's given credit for because he gets away with too much during the regular season so he doesn't have to work at it.  For pundits to say that the messiah is forced to guard a smaller, less athletic David West in the post...And that is a mismatch??  How if the messiah is the lockdown defender he's rumored to be?

They're just not that great a team...Especially without Bosh.

If you mean he can win 3 or 4 championships as an older guy filling in on a good TEAM.  I guess there is that chance  ;)  .  We will have to wait 5-6 years until his attitude would allow him to sign (for vet min) on a good TEAM.  He'd be fine for us off the bench if his health is okay at that point.

I find it interesting when people call the HEAT not that great a team but also think that we are contenders.  Aren't the HEAT in exactly the same spot we are? They are tied 2-2 in a second round series (against a better team than we are playing).  They have home court (like we do).  And they have home court in a possible matchup between the Celtics and HEAT.  If they are "just not that great a team" and are in the same exact spot as us, what does that make the Celtics?

Also, you have the officiating in the NBA backwards.  Stars get more calls in the playoffs and less in the regular season because TV ratings increase when star players are playing.  The NBA would see more playoff revenue if the HEAT play additional games than if the Pacers do.  The officiating matters less in the regular season.  Each team will play 82 games so they can pick and choose wheat games are on TV.  The NBA would like a HEAT - Lakers or Thunder Final.

My feeling on LeBron is that he's more than good enough to win a championship, or multiple - if he went his whole career without one he'd be in close competition with Elgin Baylor for greatest ringless player ever.  It'd be a shame to see a talent like that fall short for his entire career.

But I don't want him to win one until the league humbles him, until he realizes the game is bigger than he'll ever be.  If he ever gets a title, I don't want to see him dancing and strutting with the trophy, I want to see him crying with it, like Jordan did.  I'm not sure he's there yet.  Either way, we're in his way, so better luck next year!

I hope he never wins either.  However, he's still young, so the odds are in his favor...unfortunately.

  • It's all about the TEAM!
I would bet money that LeBron doesn't win three rings.

1.) If OKC signs Ibaka and Harden long term that team is young, scary and talented and have their top 5 players together for another 4-5 years.

2.) If Cleveland get Anthony Davis, in a couple years I could see them becoming OKC.

3.) New York and Chicago still have loads of talent and money and good GMs. They won't be easy to go through every year for the next 3-4 years.

4.) Don't rule out the Celtics for at least this year and maybe next.

5.) LeBron is going to miss major parts of at least one year due to injury at some point.

6.) Lebron could really be a born loser and not have what it takes to win it all unless someone does it for him. This is still a very real possibility.

I'll take #6 for $2,000 Alex.

Is this a typo, maybe you meant Durant? Because as I see it, Wade is already 30 and starting to breakdown. Not much room for error to win 3 or 4 championships for James. Compare that to Durant (23) who has Westbrook (23), Harden (22) and Ibaka (22).

Pat Riley has done a terrible job the past few years:

In the 2010 draft could have had: Landry Fields
In the 2011 draft could have had: Chandler Parsons, Lavoy Allen, Isaiah Thomas.

Say he goes Allen and Fields, signs a DLeaguer like Steamer.

Do Fields, Allen, Steamer not improve Miami?
