Shumpert and Fields could be nice additions. Im not sure if we'll have use for Lin but we can trade him to a PG needing team for a Center. I would be willing to take on Amare if NY would take this deal. With Bradley and Shumpert taking turns on defense. Fields is a dedicated defender to, while playing in his natural position at SF. And we could get a solid backup C for Lin.
This is a yes for me, don't matter if Amare is owed 60 mil for three years. This team, with this lineup is a contender for that 3 years.
Doubt that NY would do this though.
Amare is uninsured and has had serious injuries.
That means that if he ends up like Ratliff, insurance won't pay his deal like they did for Ratliff. This means we would not be able to replace him and we would be in big trouble because the owners do not have limitless resources. He is also paid a lot.
It would be an interesting risk to take Amare and could give us an exciting team, but one with a very different character from the team we have had since 2007-08. It is not clear to me that the team would actually be a contender considering we don't know what the chemistry would be like.
We do not have Dolan's money here. $20m a year is very substantial and would limit who we could add to our roster.
