Yet, Dirk long had a reputation of a player who chokes in the big games, especially the finals. I'm sure everyone who has been watching basketball for longer than just last year remembers this.

People love to harp on this "can't win the big one" nonsense until the player wins it and the fans find another player to criticize.

I doubt anyone here is a 'stat worshiper'. Most of us just want to avoid being the guy who claims whatever out there analysis he wants despite the fact that the claims have no basis in reality. To avoid being so arrogant, people check stats to see if what we think we are seeing is actually happening. Stats are imperfect guides, but our perceptions are even worse (though there are those who are quite impressed their own personal perceptions).

I would imagine that people who don't even look at the extremely basic stat of FG% could easily become fans of Melo. Doesn't matter if he sinks his team by wasting their possessions with horrible shots, so long as he gets his raw numbers at the end of the game.

I never thought this would be a good series because as I have said previously, Melo is not a threat against Miami. Lebron can easily shut down Melo's limited game because Melo is all one on one. Lebron is too strong for Melo's post game, and as we saw with D'Antoni, Melo doesn't play well in a system.

Melo also can't do his ugly throw-ball-at-rim-brick-layup-get-offensive-rebound-score play when Lebron isn't going to give him the second shot chance.

Add to that Battier, and the fact that Amare has been marginalized since Melo's arrival, and I don't see why I should expect this series to be competitive.

And the flagrant call on Chandler was a good call. Chandler lunged into a guy backpedaling to clean his clock. Good call (when reduced to Flagrant 1). It was a good playoff cheap shot though. I could see KG doing that. I'm sad to see Shumpert go down. I really like his defense. Having to play Bibby will make things worse. Perhaps a Lin appearance would allow them to ditch the ineffect Melo isos against Lebron.

Lebron is the one wit the limited game.. besides jumping and dunking, and jacking up three pointers, what else does Lebron do offensively??

While Carmelo has a pull up jumper, three point shot, take you off the dribble, post game, cutting, and can offensive rebound

I know he's on Sportcenter 24/7, but please stop overrating Lebron

Lebron's game is limited?
He's EASILY the league MVP.
Lebron gets to the hole better than anyone in the NBA. He is a complete triple threat.
He's a far superior passer, defender and offensive player.
He can defend any position. He's so strong he could play center and he's so fast he could play point guard.

Carmelo is a chucker who can't play defense. He also lacks discipline in the kitchen given his little beer gut that he's had since about year 2 of his NBA career. The guy wouldn't even make the All Star starting 5 if he were still in the Western conference.
It's okay to hate Lebron for his personal decisions and ego, but you can't deny his basketball skills and he is BY FAR a superior player to Carmelo Anthony in every facet of the game of basketball- including offense. You know why he's on sportscenter? Because he's the most dominant player in the NBA.  This is coming from a guy who HATES the Heat and although I hate Wade more, I am by no means a fan of Lebron.

What makes you think you can just say whatever you want without people fact checking you wild claims?

Lebron Jacks up 3's while Melo has a 3pt shot? Fail. Lebron shot .362 this year from 3. Melo shot .335%. Lebron shoots .331 from 3 for career, Melo shoots .322. In other words, Melo is not good from 3 and worse than Lebron. Please do not just make stuff up because you wish is was true. Considering Melo shot the 3 more frequently than Lebron this season, who is the chucker?

Another major difference - Lebron can finish. Melo just throws the ball at the side of the rim. Fortunately for Melo, he knows he is not a top finisher so he follows his shot and can score on follow ups by getting offensive rebounds off of shots. Melo regularly drives his way into no man's land for easy turnovers or embarrassing shots that aren't even close. Lebron knows how to get to his shot.

Lebron also doesn't get shut down like Melo does. If someone tried to, Lebron would still contribute because he knows how to get his teammates involved. Melo, on the other hand, turns Amare from an all star starter into a non-factor.

Don't confuse Melo's willingness to take any shot with a varied game. Dude is clueless and it places a ceiling on his team's success.

And Melo cutting? Huh? It is Lebron that regularly finishes the weak side lobs.

You seem to value athleticism alot more than I do. Dwight Howard can finish at the rim on lobs way more than Tim Duncan can. Tim can barely jump over a stack of phone books, but he is a better player. Please use another argument

You act like its so far off. Lebron is playing wit 2 other stars who get alot of attention, therefore he has more open looks. Who is Carmelo playing with? Only Amare, the same guy who was injured most of the season. He has to carry the team offensively, therefore the scoring load falls squarely on his shoulders. Hence the reason why Carmelo has 203 3pt shot attempts and Lebron only has 149

And if Lebron cant make those shots in the clutch, whats the point of putting these stats up?
