Someone convince me that Jsmooth is worth the trouble of trading for...
seriously?  19 points, 9 rebounds, 4 sssists, 2 blocks, 1.5 steals on 45% shooting... he's 26 years old... super athletic... clearly has solid defensive ability that just needs to be harnassed appropriately, and currently Atlanta is a half game behind Boston holding onto the 5th seed with him as the best player, Joe Johnson a distance 2nd and I guess the 3rd best player is like Jeff Teague or something.

What are you guys talking about?  Lol.  He's a stat machine playing for a bad organization (that he's wanted to be traded from for years)... and even without HOrford they still manage to make the playoffs primarily because of his talent.

Not a clue as to how Danny will go this offseason.

The way that Bass has produced, I'd be hard-pressed to go after anyone else. Just bring him and Jeff Green in as the significant acquisitions this offseason. I'd be happy with that.

But if we do go after a big target, PLEASE DANNY - let it be Josh Smith.

KG is playing Center now - and seems to be comfortable with it now. Get Josh here, and let him play off of KG's intensity and Doc's tutelage.

Plus, I doubt we'd have to roll out the red carpet for the guy...he's close friends with Rondo. Shouldn't be THAT hard to get him here.

That would be a defensive nightmare for the league...AB, Rondo, KG, Josh Smith...bring Stiemsma off the bench in significant minutes.

Wow.

That would be a:

Don't want Josh Smith.

He is a good player being payed like a superstar.  He isn't.

So, you remember Antoine Walker as an out of shape version of Josh Smith? Geez, talk about disrespect. I am a fan of Josh Smith and would actually be a fan of bringing him here for the right prive, but Antoine has more leadership and bball iq in his pinky than Smith has ever had. The disrespect for Antoine around here just drives me nuts sometimes. He, not Pierce, was our best player for a number of years...

And that's why Danny traded him immediately, right?

Playing for ATL he's not superstar......but get him to BOS?

Not many players who've worn the Green have disappointed.

The man's already been featured as a 2nd Team NBA Defender (09-10).

Man gave KG fits, too - back in 07-08...just about our entire team was looking over their shoulders for him back then.

We were thankful to have home court advantage vs ATL in 07-08, too. That man played out of his mind in ATL.

I only compared Walker to Smith in terms of shot selection and I suggested Walker's would be "less infuriating".  Along that axis, I think it is a fair comparison.  Hollinger's stats rank him as 66th amonng power forwards in true shooting percentage this season.

As for power forwards better than Smith right now, I would say (not in this order) Kevin Love, Pau Gasol, Ryan Anderson, LaMarcus Aldridge, Blake Griffin, Chris Bosh and Dirk Notwitzki. Kevin Garnett if you consider him as a PF playing out of position.  Tim Duncan perhaps.  Cases could be made for Paul Millsap, Zach Randolph (if healthy), Carlos Boozer, and Serge Ibaka.  The folks at Wages of Win would probably say Kenneth Faried is better, but I'm not sure I would go that far.

So, I'd say no better than 8th and it would be reasonable to leave him out of your top ten.

Exactly the reason I don't want him.
One thing I cannot stand is guys in their early twenties demanding trades as if they have out of this world talent and belong to somewhere else.
Sounds like Cousins-mentality to me.

Yeah, that was a great trade - an expiring Antoine for Raef Lafrentz [under contract for 13 mill a year for 6 years] and a pick that would later be Jiri Welsch. That honestly could go down as one of the worst deals in NBA history. I get that Antoine wasn't in Ainge's plans, but a trade for a simple expiring contract would have made much more sense for the rebuild. I know we all praise Ainge for his GM skills, but it took him a while to learn how to do his job.

Btw, in case I didn't state it obviously enough, your logic [the fact that a gm would trade somebody immediately] is absolutely horrible for why a player was 'bad'.

Dunno.  I'm not even sure if he has publicly demanded a trade... just have heard multiple times that he has "made it known" that he would prefer playing elsewhere.  And I don't blame him.

Again, though... he's got a lot of talent and he's the best player on a playoff team.  Not much to dislike about him.  He's got 1 year 12 mil left on his contract, though... so unless the Celtics plan on offering the max to Deron Williams and then offer Rondo to the highest bidder... i don't imagine there's a way for us to land Josh Smith.

  • Boston Celtics= Championships, nothing less.
No thanks, Imagine Smith with Rondo on the court late game. We'd get hacked and sent to the line and destroyed. No shooting either. JSmith has reached his ceiling. Forget him. Guy has no bball IQ and he's one injury away from becoming a poor man's PJ Brown.
"We are lucky we have a very patient GM that isn't willing to settle for being good and coming close. He wants to win a championship and we have the potential to get there still with our roster and assets."

Read that last line again. One more time.

maybe it had more to do with the shot selection, not playing the way a team would, poor defense, being out of shape and not giving in to change
the respect antoine walker gets drives me nuts, if he stayed inside and concentrated on rebounding and let his offensive game come through the flow of the game he would have been much different
pierce became our best player in his 3rd year

How about something like this after free agency starts and after the Celtics get actual cap room:

Utah gets - Avery Bradley, JaJuan Johnson, Bos 2013 1st
Atlanta gets - Al Jefferson, E'twaun Moore
Boston gets - Josh Smith, Marvin Williams, Earl Watson

Not trading Bradley and his cap friendly contract. Also not taking on William's contract.
Then you don't get better players.  If you want to upgrade the roster through trades then you have to take on salary and give up young players.
2025 Historical Draft - Cleveland Cavaliers - 1st pick

Bigs - Shaquille O'Neal, Victor Wembanyama
Wings -  Lebron James
Guards - Luka Doncic

Why...pray why...would we do that trade?  Are you Otis Smith in disguise on CelticBlog?
So let me get this straight.  The Celtics get the best player in the trade (who is a borderline all star), they get a quality 3/4 6th man type player, and a backup PG and give up a borderline starter, two guys in suits most nights, and a future 1st round pick.  Seems like a pretty good deal for Boston if you ask me.

I would cut out Atlanta and go for Jefferson.

I just don't see Utah taking that package.
