Given the situation in Atlanta with Joe Johnson and eating up the money with huge salary and the new owners unwilling to break the bank for Josh Smith, what do you guys think it would take for us to pair RR and his budy JSmooth...?
Would a 1st rounder (in a good draft) + Marquis + Hollins suffice?
I wouldn't mind even throwing there JJJ if that can bring us JSmooth!

if we can add green and bring back the gang together we could have a scary deep team :

Rondo / Dooling / Moore
Bradley / Ray / Pietrus
Green / Pierce / Pavlovic
JSmooth / Bass / JJJ (Or Wilcox if he can come back or any FA)
Stiemboat / KG / 1st Rounder

STARTERS:
You start a very athletic group that is young enough to be the future of the franchise and good enough to get you a very good playoff spot. Athleticism off the chart! Defensely it would be SCARY! Championship level! Offensively, Green and Bradley will need to be 3-point threats but I think they all have above average shooting skills for their positions beside RR and Avery... Imagine the number of blocks per game with Stiemboat and JSmooth! Imagine the fast breaks with Bradley, Green and JSmooth along side RR!

BENCH:
You bring of the bench your BIG 3 plus Bass and Dooling who will be even more confortable with Doc's system and playing with the Big 3... This will extend the Big 3 basketball life expectancy by about 1-3 years!! Plus they could still be closing most games or have the most playoff minutes with Rondo and JSmooth... (RR+Ray+PP+JSmooth+KG to close games).

I think this is attainable, all it would take is:
1)Bring back the band at a reduce cost
2)Trade for JSmooth
3)Work Bradley and Green into 3pts shooting threats...

Number 1) is fairly easily doable
Number 2) will be quite difficult
Number 3) is manageable

I think such a team give us a couple of banners during a smooth transition into life after the big 3...

What do you guys think..???

This package does not get Josh Smith out of Atlanta.

If we are looking to trade for a player then I vote Milsap way before Smith. Smith is all flash little substance.

I don't think that would suffice.

Atlanta would probably want more talent and some sort of financial relief.

Daniels and Hollins are free agents after this season, so can't be traded.

I'm not a fan of Josh Smith becoming a Celtic because I expect him to have a more infuriating shot selection than Antoine Walker.

Seems an apt analogy to me as well.

I understand what you mean but Smith is a borderline All-Star and I would be very happy with Millsap except Utah have the means to keep him there!
And my point is Atlanta has committed too much money on JJhonson and Horford so they might have some issues if Smith doesn't want to return there for less money than his 2 friends... Millsap is all good but he wont be available! JSmooth might be avaialble (having already requested a trade!!)
He recently paid a visit to his friend Rondo in the celtics locker room!
If he wants to be a cletics and we can afford it, I say go get him!!

I think Bass was known as no pass bass and was shooting every ball that passed through his hand pushing the Magic to trade him away... we know how well it works out for us! Even D ROse had a questionable shoot selection has he was working on extending his range... All I'm saying is that Josh Smith could work better in our system if Doc, Rondo and KG can channel him into making the right decision within the offense! The numbers talk for him! He is a bordeline all star with great athleticism, very young, improved shooting, shotblocking force who can switch on PnR and can run with rondo!
As for trading FA Daniels and hollins, I thought we signed and traded FA Big Baby and Wafer to get Bass... is that not an option anymore...?????

Millsap is all good but he wont be available!

It's been reported that the Jazz have shopped both Millsap and Al Jefferson around because they have two young bigs in Enes Kanter and Derrick Favors.

The Jazz may have less pressure to trade Millsap because he says he likes it there, but there is some pressure on the Hawks to get something in return for Smith that is more than fire sale value.  I could see Atlanta asking for a pick, a young player, and something else, so perhaps a package of Bass (if he takes his player option or agrees to a sign-and-trade), Bradley, and a first rounder.

I'd love to get Millsap, but I doubt Jazz trade him. Kanter and Favors are better utilized playing the center spot, so, Millsap is their best PF option. Maybe Big Al is more expendable for them.
As for Smith, well, I've never been a big fan of his game. He tends to shoot way too much for a player that, um, doesn't shoot well, and quite often quits playing with his heart, which is something you don't need.
He's definitely an upgrade over Bass, but giving up too many assets is something I don't fancy much.

Once we do finally hit the post big three era, the one and ONLY thing I will not miss about Kevin Garnett being on this team, is this notion that we can take on any kind of problem player from around the league and KG will just whip him right into shape.

Even if this theory is true in Josh Smiths case, how long do we expect KG to be on this team??  The kind of player we should be looking for is the type of guy with a personality like KG's that can carry on the In your Face, All Work, All Practice, All Business mentality.

How about something like this after free agency starts and after the Celtics get actual cap room:

Utah gets - Avery Bradley, JaJuan Johnson, Bos 2013 1st
Atlanta gets - Al Jefferson, E'twaun Moore
Boston gets - Josh Smith, Marvin Williams, Earl Watson
2025 Historical Draft - Cleveland Cavaliers - 1st pick

Bigs - Shaquille O'Neal, Victor Wembanyama
Wings -  Lebron James
Guards - Luka Doncic

Not trading Bradley and his cap friendly contract. Also not taking on William's contract.

There were rumblings about a Josh Smith and pieces for Howard trade... You really think a late first rounder,  guy who cant get off our bench, and a guy who wouldnt have been on an NBA roster all season unless we werent desperate for a big would get it done?  ::)

I mean im much higher on Josh Smith than a lot of people on this board and i feel like I am in the minority when it comes to wanting Smith on the Celts but lets get more realistic.

Something like a sign and trade involving Ray, JJJ and a first rounder would be a starting place to get Smith here. And I would definitely make that trade. Resign Bass and Petey...

Rondo
Bradley/Petey
Pierce/Green
Smith/Bass
Kg/Stemah

Use the rest of our min money on a Kaman or a back up pg. Im more than ok with that lineup.

That lineup looks god-awful.  I doubt it'd win 45 games

Josh Smith = enigma

Can't figure him out.  Is he just a trade away from being a dominant pf?  Or as someone posted is he antoine walker except he is in shape?  If a sign & trade of Bass and filler would work so be it.  His lack of low post game wouldn't help, we are already a jump shooting team.  If we didn't have kg at center and bradley cutting we'd be back where we were at mid season.

He is a good player but not the sort I'd break the bank to get
