Melo full time at the 4 next to Tyson Chandler. If this team can find someone to bite on Amare - which I doubt they'll be able to do - next season, they're going to be really scary.
They'll need get a bigger stronger option at SF if they're going with that lineup full time.

I doubt they could get anything of value for Amar'e at this point.

They'd definitely need a different 3 that's for sure. But I'd imagine filling that role wouldn't be extremely difficult. Even a defensive minded 3 like Pietrus would help.

I think at this point, if they could dump Amare for pieces they should. Not that I think Amare is incapable of rebounding, but I do think Amare and Melo can't work. And because of the disparity in health I think you have to movee forward with Melo
They need a real forward to pair with melo not a big guard like Pietrus.

They'd also need another rotational big man, they have nothing behind Chandler.

No doubt about it. It's not like Tyson Chandler has a clean bill of health either, despite that he's been healthy the past two seasons.

I agree with you that they'd need a big forward, like a Marion, but it might be difficult. I sited Pietrus just to point that I think you could plug in a minimum player with some success.

Well they also need Lin to come back and provide them with at least average starting level PG play for them to be anything but a very low playoff seed.

Shumpert probably also needs to develop into a legitmate rotational player, probably more.

Ya. The biggest problem right now is that Baron Davis can't give them the minutes they need at PG, and the options behind him are even worse than an extremely fatigued B-Diddy.

And the game winning 3.  Wish I was washed up, I'd be a lot richer.

I was so hype when he hit that shot, and the game winning shot
Also, Carmelo is really thriving on defense in Mike Woodson's system

The Knicks won.

he isnt washed up.....he is just an over rated one trick pony.

I think his "trick" is being the best playoff game scorer in the league. That's a he'll of a trick. Needs a KG next to him to get his head straight, but there's no one in the league I'd rather go to with 5 minutes left of a 86-85 Game 6. He was about to wear out his welcome in NY which would have allowed someone to steal him on the cheap. Too bad he's playing better now.
Why do you say he is the 'best playoff game scorer'? I remember him trying to bull his way to the rim in the playoffs and ending up with an obvious charge called against him.

Melo is not washed up. He is very talented. He is probably a top 20 player in the league right now. Unfortunately, his good games are deceiving because the same style of play also leads to a lot of bad games. Just because his 3s dropped this game doesn't erase his general poor shooting from 3. He also continues to bull his way to rim only to finish with pathetic shot attempts that the defense can easily rebound since they can clog the lane against him.

He has the physical talent to be a top 10 player, but it seems to me that he doesn't have the bball IQ, drive or discipline to be that.

You would think that it would require playoff success first before calling someone the best playoff scorer.

Nevertheless, Melo is not a 'one trick pony'. He can do more than just score. People just expect too much from him. He is not in the same class as Kobe, Lebron, or Wade as far as wings go, but people often overreact to the hype around him and overstate his shortcomings. Melo is an all star level player. He is unimpressive if you compare him to people Like Lebron or Wade, but there are 30 starting SF in the league and it is easier to appreciate his various skills when comparing him to middle guys instead of to the top guys.

Still, I can't stand watching the guy regularly. So many ugly games. So many wild moves to the rim for zero points.

What I meant was a guy that could put an inferior team on his back offensively late in games against a great defensive team.

If only there was a good recent example of such an effort....
