Said it before nd I'll say it again 20,000 point scorer wit no accolades or rings he's gettin close to Vince Carter status

You're kidding right?!
Basically thats Kobe if he didn't have Shaq, or the twin towers in Bynum and Gasol

Yeh but he did and does. As much as a dislike the lakers, Kobe is much much better than anthony ever was or will be

I wanna agree but I feel Carmelo's teammates were no where near as good as Kobe's... like that 3 yr span where Kobe didnt have Shaq or Gasol. He never passed the 1st round of the playoffs and missed the playoffs one of those years. Vince Carter, Carmelo, and Kobe would all be in the same boat if Kobe didn't have 7 ft giants win titles for him

Top 5 scorer if he gets his head right. Get him while you can and surround him with the right guys. Washed up not nearly the right way to describe him. Head case in the wrong situation. Put him between Ray and KG the last few years and he would have won championships. Pierce for Melo is a no-brainer. He's built to lead the right team in the playoffs. Doc could very well be the perfect coach for him.

He is a tall Iverson.  Numbers are geat, and he looks great getting them.  But his teams are better when he's not there.

Melo has to reinvent himself as a NBA player. Much as PP and KG or Grant Hill have done since they were in their prime. Its not easy transistion to a Prime role player from being "THE" man that carries the team game in and game out.

He needs to learn you can lead your team in other ways besides scoring 40 points a game.

Kobe is lucky he physically can still turn the swtich on at times and force the game the Lakers way.  Melo need to become more like Pierce, and provide the right balance of defense and offense based on what his teamates are contributing.

Melo has to want to change his game to one that directs the effort at winning. If he is having an off shooting night , then play around the rim , defend, and rebound like crazy.

He lacks the killer instinct of many superstars or the fire you see in KG or Kobe or Wade.

well...yes. without good teammates kobe would have won squat. but by the same token, look at pierce without kg and allen.

your point is interesting correct, but it can also be said about any other player.

bird without parish and mchale = 0 championships

michael jordan without pippen = 0 championships

and so on.

but just to keep this thread on track, carmelo is a fantastic scorer. but not at kobe's level. carmelo's major flaw, in my mind, is his inability to see beyond himself on the court.

carmelo is about carmelo and he wont play well in a system that isnt about him first, second, and third.

pierce, allen, and kg all gave up their individual games to be a team. carmelo? i dont think so.
I believe Gandhi is the only person who knew about real democracy — not democracy as the right to go and buy what you want, but democracy as the responsibility to be accountable to everyone around you. Democracy begins with freedom from hunger, freedom from unemployment, freedom from fear, and freedom from hatred.

Clearly having a bad year....perhaps lock-out related, perhaps not.  But at 27, not sure folks should be labeling him washed up just yet....the guy has had some great years.
Yeah, definitely in a career slump, (which all players go through), and has always been a bit over-rated, IMHO, but washed up? We all should be so washed up. ;)

Agreed, as much as I don't like the way he left Denver hes in the first full year of a new system. He'll be fine...he actually played well in playoff games which is what separates him from Vince Carter.

The Knicks should try to package Melo and Chandler for Howard. They would be crazy not to at least make the call.

Carmelo Anthony is a fantastic offensive player that requires a specific style of offense to excel. The Knicks, in his entire tenure, have not catered to abilities despite giving up a boat load to acquire him.

He's the type of guy I'll end up rooting for, just because of the gross overreactions to a poor year has forced me to defend him more than I've wanted.

i dislike kobe but i disagree wit this statement Kobe had some garbage teams when Shaq nd them were gone (Smush Parker, Chris Mihm, Kwame Brown as starters) and still had them competing and almost beating the Phoenix suns in the first rouund. Melo has been on solid above average teams nd hasnt gotten it done

I dislike the Kobe comparison mainly because Kobe was put in the very strong Western Conference, whereas Melo is in the putrid Eastern Conference. Plus he has arguably a top five PF on his team and arguably a top 5 center on his team. He has good teammates. You aren't a superstar if you shoot 39% from the field for a season and also fail to play defense. By this standard Brandon Bass will be on the cover of NBA Live in no time.

To say Melo is washed up is slightly absurd.

Dude's in a scoring slump. The player that's really washed up is Amare.

Yeah Amare has looked quite bad in the games I've seen him in. Hope that uninsured contract doesn't come back to bite them. Little lift. Not enough explosiveness and too much posturing. And don't get me started on that raggedy beard.

I wouldn't call Carmelo washed up either. I think he's still having trouble fitting in. Under Woodson he might be better off. That Atlanta iso offense is perfect for him.
Tommy: He's got a line about me. Tell him the line.

Mike: Everybody 60 or over knows Tommy as a player. Everybody 40 or over knows Tommy as a coach. Everybody 20 or over knows Tommy as a broadcaster. And everybody 10 or under thinks he's Shrek.

Very true I totally agree you can't win without talent
But my point is that Kobe had a reasonable team, post-Shaq, pre-Gasol
Smush Parker, Chris Mihm, Kwame Brown, Lamar Odom, Vuja-Snitch, Caron Butler, a young Bynum
If Kobe was as great as people say he his, he could at least have lead that team past the 1st round at least once
To me he's in the same boat as Vince Carter and Carmelo
