Azubuike has not played in the league since early in the 2009-10 season. Because he has been out of action so long, Azubuike will likely begin his comeback with the Texas Legends in Frisco. He is expected to be in uniform Saturday night for the Legends and as soon as he sufficiently knocks off the rust, he would join the Mavericks.
At one time, he was considered one of the best athletic talents in the league when the 6-5 swingman was with the Warriors. He was part of the 2007 team that beat the Mavericks in the first round.
Born in London, England, he grew up in Tulsa and went to college at Kentucky, leaving as a junior.
In 2008-09, he averaged 14.4 points and 5.0 rebounds for the Warriors.
The Mavericks clearly had their eyes on Azubuike when they waived Sean Williams on Thursday. That opened up a roster spot.
