I could see the Russian billionaire offering 2 year $30 million to KG. For $15 million a year, I can't see KG turning it down. And I hope Danny would not match.
Once you are labeled 'the best' you want to stay up there, and you can't do it by loafing around.

Deron is leaving would KG really want to go there?

I doubt money is even an issue. Not to mention Doc knows KG better than anybody, knows when to push him and when not to and limit his minutes. I think if KG plays next year it's here...especially if its coming off say a heartbreaking ECF loss where we almost make the Finals. I don't see him or Ray wanting to leave unless we decide to part from them.

Especially with the players they just got, it's not like they're going to win a championship.  I don't even know what to call DWill, Lopez and Gerald Wallace.  A Medium Three?

I thought KG would retire after his contract, but hes still playing at a high level, a really high level, sure hes older but hes nowhere near "[dang] guy you need to retire you can barely move out there, aka Rasheed Wallace, Shaq, etc"

Celtic or not next season, I don't want to see KG retire.

KG is going to play in Boston. He still needs to teach a few tricks and tips to our 1st round pick Arnett Moultrie.

Seriously, I'm not even sure if KG will still play next season. I hope he does, in Boston, on a 5-6 million a year deal. But if the Nets would sign him and he's okay with it, I have no problem with it as well. He's gonna give that team a boost in their mentality, but not a huge one in physicality.

If he doesn't retire I can see him staying in green, as long as danny doesn't make an insulting offer or the nets throw silly money at him.  If he signed with nj for crazy money I'd be giving him a standing ovation when he came back to the garden regardless.

Paul Pierce is the captain
Rajon Rondo is the future
but Kevin Garnett changed Boston from an Antoine Walker sort of city back to a Larry Bird type place.

I don't think playing at a high level would stop KG from playing over the next few years, but the amount of pain he plays through could.

I don't think the Nets would give up that much salary if they are re-tooling.  I also don't see KG moving onto that type of team.  If he were to leave and play somewhere else, it would probably be to shoot for another ring.

I think if DA can get KG for a reasonable salary (6-8mil) next year then I think it is a no brainer to bring him back.  Even coming off the bench, his D, his leadership, everything would be worth it.  Between RA and KG I def see KG with a much greater chance to be here next year.

I think all of this depends on KG's heath for the rest of the year.  No major injuries, body feels good, then a good chance we could see him next year.  But maybe in a different role...

I'm assuming KG will retire after this year.  His decline in athleticism is going to make it hard to be good power forward and he doesn't like playing center (though I think he could be a solid center). The only thing he has left to play for is championships.

He doesn't strike me as the type to stick around past his time, so I think this might be it.

I highly doubt he will retire. Watching him throughout gis career and this season doesn't strike me as a guy who's just going to "hang them up".

This is a guy who said he's still going to be playing rec ball leagues when he's older. He's not ready for those leagues yet and if he continues to play well he's only going to get more and more and better and better contract offers.

Its not going to be an allen iverson, rasheed Wallace situation where he will have Tp beg

I don't see him leaving Boston. To strong a bond with doc especially.

Danny would have to actively tell Garnett that we don't want him back or really insult him with a contract( basically the same thing)

Danny not going to do that unless KG is trying to really maximize his worth(which I doubt he will be). If its really going to hinder us from signing another guy than maybe but at this point there wont be much. I mean wouldn't danny absolutely sign kg over bass or something like that?

Also think he is valuable as a mentor. We always hear good things about him with the young bigs and especially could be good for johnson to have him around for another year or two

I seriously don't get why people think KG is going to retire.  He's not some corpse who can barely go up and down the floor.  He's not some washed-up has-been.  He's still good enough that $10m might be a bargain for the production he can offer for next season.

I agree.

In a per minute basis, Garnett is still a top-2 defender in the league. He just doesn't play many minutes anymore, otherwise he'd still have a good case for DPOY. Still a very good complimentary offensive player too. Great passing and screening, solid 3rd offensive option. Very good rebounder.

Easily one of the best centers in the league.

If Garnett and Wallace can play at a similar level to their best moments this season (I have more doubts about Wallace, actually) and they can build a very good bench, the Nets would have something close to a contender assuming Brooks is what people say he is as a wing scorer.

I have a hard time seeing Garnett switch teams. That is the main reason.

If Boston isn't competing for a title and decides to rebuild with new people, I think his interest in staying in the league fades pretty fast. I get the feeling that the wear and tear of everyday life as an NBA player is gnawing away at him pretty fierce too.

He is still a very talented NBA player and can most definitely help someone if he decides to stay on. I hope he stays in the NBA (with Boston or not) and plays on.

Yeah, I remember a particular quote:

Quote
I’m going to probably fade to black. To be honest, I’m not a showman guy. I’m going to fade to black. I don’t know what I will do. I’m an idealist. I have a high drive and I’m very determined. Fade to black, man, like evaporate.

I don't think he's too interested in hanging around for the money and slowly deteriorating. He wants to go out on top, or at least when he's still a top player. He has a couple of seasons left in him, but I don't see him playing unless he's 100 percent committing because doesn't want to be remembered for his older self.
