Having the kind of GM who would be willing to trade two first rounders for a rental of Kaman is probably the quickest way to the lottery.

Obviously. But in this situation it is not that simple. To me, it comes down to what offers of a better opportunity to win a championship:

A) Adding Kaman to this squad for the rest of the year, the playoffs.

or

B) The Clipper's 1st round pick (likely 20 something)

A. Do the Celtics win the championship this year with Kaman?

B. Do the Celtics win a future championship with the player drafted with the Clipper pick, or traded for that pick?

Keep in mind: Rajon Rondo was drafted 21st overall in 2006. That draft class was not as touted as this upcoming one.

I honestly think this thread title/premise is an epic fail.
Danny has not mortgaged our future on one last run when there really wasn't any move we could make that would significantly improve us whilst retaining our flexibility next year.

All these critics having a go at Danny, please enlighten us on what you would have done in his shoes and whom you would have traded and with which teams that want our guys?

We are now in a perfect position to go after Dwight Howard.
Resign KG, Ray on smaller deals and bring them off the bench and have the rest of our capspace for Dwight, another top tier free agent and two first round draft picks.
Even if we don't get Dwight we have a better shot now than we ever had that he's resigned with the Magic.

Who cares if we can't make a move next season? There's a few free agent shooting guards, and in 2014 there are some major big men coming onto the market.

If we can't get a major franchise player, I'd rather let the big 3 walk, or resign them to friendly deals, then move them for more picks in the 2014 draft.
If Chicago can't beat MIA this year, I'd love to give them Pierce+Ray+KG for their Charlotte pick.
2 years of sucking, with 2-4 top five draft picks in 2014/15(with Pierce coming off the books for another 18-20 million) before Rondo turns 30.
Tool up to give him a run in his prime.

Just because there won't be anyone of note to sign, doesn't mean a trade can't be made. In the past, players like Tyson Chandler, Al Jefferson, Camby were all dealt for basically cap space.

Well, while Danny can't actually buy out Kaman (the Hornets would have to do that), I do truly believe he has something up his sleeve here and that is a large reason why nothing happened today.

Well, while Danny can't actually buy out Kaman (the Hornets would have to do that), I do truly believe he has something up his sleeve here and that is a large reason why nothing happened today. 

If Kaman ends up a Celtic, I'll support him, but I have to admit that I'm leery about him being a good fit.  Yes, he's a talented offensive player, being a seven footer with a nice array of moves and a smooth touch, but I think he has a bit of Al Jefferson syndrome.  I'm just not sure that what we need is a big who likes to get the ball in the high post and back his man down for six or seven seconds while everyone else waits for him to make his move.  I think he could be disruptive to our team's offense flow.  

Defensively, I don't really trust him either.  He's big and he can block a few shots and snare some defensive rebounds, but he doesn't move his feet too well or cover much ground.

I feel like this team is better off with more of an athlete, garbage man type who rolls more than he pops and runs the floor well and gives good energy off the bench as a 3rd or 4th big.

Maybe Chris Johnson is that guy.  If only he weren't as skinny as JaJuan Johnson.  Speaking of which; Doc, it's definitely time to free JJJ.

Great job Boston. I am looking forward towards to years of barely .500 ball. If I wanted that I could save money, drop league pass and watch The Rockets here in Houston for free on local cable.

We're getting knocked out in the 1st round.  

But it's ok, because we have 25 million in cap space that we can split up amongst stars like Kevin Garnett, Ray Allen, Brandon Bass and Jeff Green.  So we'll be back on top in no time.

A little late to the party here, but your attitudes are saddening, ridiculously exaggerated, and IMHO, wrong.  Call me overly optimistic, but this is still a solid team that could get lucky and win a bunch when it matters.  No, I don't think they'll win a chamionship, but I wouldn't say they have absolutely zero chance, and I certianly wouldn't suggest years of .500 ball.  I would have preferred a trade like the rumor going around that had us getting Okafor, but this is still a very good, if top-heavy team.

I'm seriously worried that Rondo's prime is going to be wasted on a middle of the pack roster.  It's sad to say but I think half the league has a brighter future than the Celts at this juncture.

I am so sick of hearing that Boston has never been a free agent destination of choice.

This will be the first time the Celtics have cap space since I can rememeber.

Besides, if there arent any attractive FA's next year, just wait another year without signing any long term deals.

Patience will get us into contention alot faster than panic.

There were plenty of draft picks being given for expiring vets.

What we kept hearing was that Ainge was asking for too much. We heard over and over, from Larry Bird a couple of weeks ago to Woj today, that he was asking for a young prospect plus a draft pick for Ray Allen.

Had he settled for a late first rounder, I strongly suspect Allen would have been traded.

Ainge overvalued his assets and ended up with nothing.
