No, this is the Lakers desperately picking a bad player in the hopes that he will develop because he is young. Beasley is not very good.
He's better than Steve Blake. He may not be a legit starter on a contender. He can help sure up their bench and provide some scoring when needed though. This makes more sense for a team like the Lakers than it does most other teams.
While certainly Beasely's the much better player, you could argue based off of what they need that Steve Blake is more valuable. Again, look at the mock minutes list I provided above. They're asking Fisher and a rookie guard to play 48 minutes and remain a contender, without any assets to acquire one.
EDIT: What's almost comical to me is what they need most IS INVOLVED IN THE TRADE. Luke Ridnour is just about as perfect of a fit as you could think of. A player who accepts his role, moves the ball well, and can knock down open looks with consistency
