Fair point, GF.

He's a known student of the game, so he's probably mixing some Cousy in there :)

Rondo also played elite defense.
Um, yeah. No, he didn't.

Did you watch the game?  At least go look at Lin and Davis stats before denying the obvious.
I watched the game. Did you?

For starters, Lin was riding the bench most of the time because of foul trouble. Despite that, he still managed to almost bring the Knicks back with a couple of timely plays in the fourth quarter.

Regardless, that's not the big concern defensively about Rondo. You must have missed the part when Baron Davis was getting wide open jumpers because Rondo was lurking in the paint under our own basket looking for his tenth rebound.

Scoring is over-emphasized in general.  Players whose primary skill is scoring tend to be over-valued.  Players who do not have scoring as their primary skill tend to be under-valued.

Give me a break, D-Will almost scored 60...

Great game from Rondo but he wasn't even the star of the game he was in.

lol what? How is a stat line of 18-20-17 not automatically considered the star of the game?

Rondo was clearly the most talked about guy (aside from Deron) from around the league, it's not even close.

D-Will single handedly won the game for the Nets.  Rondo had a great performance, but so did Pierce and it was actually Pierce's clutch shots that won the game.  Don't people remember how close we were to losing this game?  It took an off balance desperation 3 by Pierce just to get into OT.

I think the other issue is Rondo simply isn't a superstar in this league.  When a Rose, D-Will, Kobe, Durant, Blake do something spectacular they get frontpage guaranteed.  How much hoopla did Blake get for his dunk on Perk?  It was just one play and I didn't find it all that impressive to be honest with you.  But he's a true national superstar in this league and that gets him top billing.

It's all about marketing.

I don't want to burst anyone's bubble but players from Boston sports teams just aren't as marketable as other cities.

You got maybe a top 2 QB of all time in Tom Brady and the NFL would still push other QB's like Brees and Aaron Rodgers instead of Brady.

If Rondo played for the Lakers or the Knicks he's be marketed and talked about much more easily and frequently.

Lin played for 32 min and was 6 for 16.
Baron Davis made 3 shots the entire game, at least one of which was a contested desperation heave.
They had 12 turnovers between them.
To even question the remarkable defense Rondo displayed is pure denial.

I get really tired of people saying that Rondo is trying to pad his stats.  That is just idiotic and patronizing.  I watched the whole game, and I saw NO inkling of Rondo doing that.  I actually have NEVER seen him do that.  If you don't like Rondo fine, but you don't have to blatantly make stuff up.

D Will barely beat the WORST team in the league, in a game no one cared about.
Rondo beat a team with contender talent in a game crucial for the division title and playoff seeding on national TV.

I saw him "lurk" in the paint on one shot...
The thing I find startling is people using "stat padding" as an argument against Rondo, as far as trying to get a rebound...  Are you serious?  We're one of the worst rebounding teams in the league.  With all the missed box outs I see from this team, and the amount of offensive boards they allow at times... It's pathetic trying to use "stat padding" as a negative against Rondo, ESPECIALLY when it comes to rebounds.  Get real.

I think the Knicks game is a good example of why I am ok with Rondo passing up a layup in order to allgedly pad his assist numbers.

ESPN historically hates rondo. i terms of point guards, its all about "lob city" and westbrick.
