Last night when I turned on sportscenter, I was thinking Rondo's triple double was gonna be probably the first, maybe the 2nd topic on sportscenter. No. Deron Williams was. They went through every single shot he made and spent about 3 minutes recapping his game. After talking about Kobe they finally got to Rondo and spent about 30 seconds recapping the game and making note of  what Rondo did....
I can think of about 30 guys who have scored 50 points in an nba game. I can think of 3 who did what Rondo did. Wilt, Oscar, and Rajon.

Then, I tun on first take this morning and was thinking ok this is a little more in depth than sportscenter, it will certainly be the first or second thing they talk about. It wasnt the first, the second or even the third. It was about an hour and a half into the show that they got to it and all Skip Bayless (who I usually agree with) could say was that this boosts his trade stock. I was so furious at how much he had been slighted. If Chris Paul had done what Rondo had done yesterday it would have been the number one topic on sportscenter and all anyone could talk about was how incredible he is. The NBA has an agenda and they as well as ESPN only care about pushing their golden boys.
Another thing Bayless said was that Rondo was 0 for 6 in the 4th. Im actually glad he was criticizing him for that cause it means that rondo has gotten to that level where hes expected to be clutch. But besides that i was furious at the idiocracy of these reporters.

ESPN is trying to hype up D-Will so they can make a bigger story over his free agency this off-season

D Will scored 57 points against Augustin, Walker and the Bobcats as a the first and only scoring option.  Rondo had 17 rebounds against Chandler, Stoudemire and Melo as a point guard.  Rondo also played elite defense.

I think there's two reasons for this.

1) Rondo (and the Celtics) played mediocre (and was injured) for stretches at the start of this season.

This has really hurts his "status" in the league, as he went from "the next big thing" (at the start of last season, averaging what, 15 assists a game?) to "just another decent PG".

2) Rondo didn't really have his best game ever.

I really feel that he can do a lot better, and with him going 7 - 19 (from memory) while missing a whole bunch of layups, he kind of missed the spotlight. He could have (easily) gotten 30+ points, in which case (I think) this would've made more headlines.

That said, yes, it's kinda-sorta a sign of disrespect. But I'm sure Rondo will try to prove people wrong.

My take?

Watch NBATV, my friend.

They did a fine job of explaining the significance of what Rajon Rondo did, to me. It appeared to be fair, too - with no preferential treatment.

Also - I have to agree with Kiorrik's number 1 bullet, too. Celtics have been inconsistent this season.

But even with that there is another point of view, because Deron Williams' Nets have been consistently lousy all season, lol. ;D Wow.

Plus, the man does have (IMO) some taint on him for the whole Jerry Sloan situation.

I'm trying to give ESPN the benefit of the doubt here, BUUUUTT...

I was surprised to see this thread, because from my experience today Rondo talk has been everywhere. Maybe I didn't watch in the morning, but when I got home from work all I have seen is talk of Rondo's triple double. Online, TV, whatever, I have seen it mentioned a lot more than Deron Williams.

Ianboy is right.

I watched Sportscenter last night, and Rondo's accomplishment was I believe the 3rd NBA-related event that was discussed, with Deron's 57 being the first.

  • Sometimes there's no sane reason for optimism
I live in Florida (spend time in Orlando and Ft. Lauderdale schools) and all I can say is that Rondo is pretty much the consensus favorite player of school-age kids. I know that doesn't speak for the adults of the world, but Rondo is beloved by so many and more appreciated than you would ever think...don't worry, there is a lot of love for Rondo out there...

Um, yeah. No, he didn't.

Plus, anytime that, according to Shaq - President Obama disses Rondo on his jumper...and then, during the All-Star game Skills Competition, we had to listen to Fratello (I think) comment on Rondo's jumper...

There is the "taint" on him that he can't shoot - which has been discussed on CB to infinity.

What Rajon Rondo is, though - is an NBA Champion. Sadly, even THAT has been attributed to our Big Three. During that series back in 07-08, I'm not sure what Rondo's stats were, but the man flirted with a triple double even then - in our clenching game 6.

But - Paul gets series MVP (Well-Deserved), and KG gets Defensive Player of the Year (Again - well-deserved).

Rondo - while appreciated here amongst BOS fans, gets overlooked in this sense.

BOS's culture of Team-First, Defense-First doesn't always mesh well with Sportscenter's Highlights, unfortunately. That has ALWAYS been BOS's culture.

Defense wins championships - BUT: Offense sells tickets. This is, IMO, why Deron Williams got the press.

When I started watching the NBA back in Holland, the first full NBA games I saw in my life, were those by the C's, whom I automatically took as my favorite team.

This was back in '07, and the main reason for picking the C's for me, was Rondo.

He looked *different*, his play style, his passes, everything was different somehow. Like he was from another planet.

My point is: it's Rondo that succeeded at making me a big C's fan, so he must've done *something* right, even back then.

No doubt. Rondo has earned the keys. Time to let him drive the car, and build around him.

Did you watch the game?  At least go look at Lin and Davis stats before denying the obvious.

Of course Rondo looked different to you and everyone else for that matter - the man favors Bob Cousy's style, IMO. :)

I just noticed this the other day while watching some Cousy youtube clips - that funky play that Rondo does when he reverses his shot - I saw Cooz do that on one of his clips!

Look around 1:00 mark on the clip:

And now THIS - especially the one he executes on Bynum:
