He really hasnt played all that bad... He really hasnt played at all in general. He is on this team as a guy to play 10 or 12 minutes. What exactly has he done wrong in that time he has played? I think he'll play a nice role for us in the playoffs once he gets his legs back and plays a few games with the team.

If we trade him while his value to the league is at its lowest then we will get worse in return. Dooling is a serviceable 2nd/3rd string PG. his impact really wont upgrade much.

Someone give me an argument for why Dooling should be the first to go instead of Marquis Daniels if the Celtics need a roster spot.

Dooling stinks up the teams game flow...  99% of the time.  Then a miracle occurs, bang.. he hits a three , after bricking 30 shots in a roll after hard earned team stops and everybody goes ....woooo hooo...Keyon got game....yeah he has game alright.. called D League.  Hopes day pack his sorry self off to the Siberian Mullets or BF Egypt Corndogs  ::)

Having Rondo and Pierce on the bench stinks up the game flow.  Dooling just doesn't correct it.  But that shouldn't be his job.

Making a big deal out of not much in my opinion.

Dooling basically missed a full month (played in 1 game for 9 minutes) between Jan 11 and Feb 12.  Prior to Jan 11 he was OK in a back-up role; since his return he's been awful.  It's likely he's still recovering and hasn't returned to form yet.  It's really not a big deal -- he'll either bounce back (he is capable of hitting shots), or Doc will bench him and Danny will get rid of him.  In the meantime, there is a lot more to be concerned about regading the C's periodic lapses in energy and offense than Keyon Dooling.  This is scapegoating. The Dooling issue will play itself out soon.

  • You say when......
Reality is, it is too late when you got him....you was stuck.should have kept Delonte West....we would be kicking if we kept most of who we had..and they would have stayed for the money we gave to the guys who sit the bench or don't play...Green..i like him, but he is gone....Tony Allen...OMG..I LOVED this guy, and if YOU didn't, you missed those playoffs when he covered the best in the league, and shut them all down.....and then he got better...gone, 3.5 puny million....for WHO..yup, your buddy, marquis danials, the  man of 1000 excuses for why he isn't ready to play.......and perkins, so we now have my man steamer, but just like perk, no one will ever pass to him......coach, draw up a play..the kid showed he can score plenty....you'll get nothing for dooling, he might help in the playoffs.....if not, play moore some..better do it  b4 the playoffs....COACH.....!

I think Ainge find with Bass, Wilcox and Pietrus, but Dooling ...

He must be traded, the Celtics have to do something with this player.

He is still a very good defender,

Huh?

What is huh?  He has made his career as one of the better defensive PGs in the league, who can also defend SGs, and he has been exactly that this year as well.

I am genuinely perplexed by this whole thing.  Has anyone actually looked at who other teams are throwing out there?  As an 8th or 9th man, you are not going to do much better than Dooling, who will give you exactly what you want.  He will defend, he will give you versatility, and he will knock down shots.

Yes, he has been in a slump.  In 8 games in February he shot just 29% from 3, but in December he shot 43%, and in January he shot 39%.  Over his career he has been an almost identical 3 point shooter as James Posey (both shoot 35%, but both can be streaky).

Keyon Dooling is going to be a very important part of this team if they do anything in the playoffs this year.  He is exactly the type of player teams need in the playoffs, because he does the little things.

I respectfully disagree.  I haven't been thrilled by his defense; it looks good in short spurts, but it has been inconsistent, and mediocre overall.  Stats back this observation up.  According to Synergy Sports, he ranks 291st in points allowed per possession.  If you look at 82games.com, his Opponent's PER is terrible against PGs and decent against SGs, and his PER differential is the second worst on the team (behind Stiemsma).  His defensive rating is worst on the team, and his defensive +/- is worst, too.  While defensive stats aren't the be-all and end-all, when they uniformly point to a player being a bad defender there's usually something to them.

Add that to his poor shooting and his low assist numbers, and I think the angst is understandable.  So far this year, I think he's been poor, even for a third PG.

Fair enough.  I guess I need to watch him closer.  I will say that I put almost no stock in defensive stats and metrics, but I seem to be in the extreme minority in not seeing a problem with him.

I guess I am just blinded by his early play (I don't care what the stats say, before he got hurt, he was one of the best players on the team...which says a lot about how terrible this team was early in the season).

But I stand by my argument that he is going to be very important to this team if they make the playoffs.  He reminds me of a PG/SG version of James Posey.  He is not a lockdown defender, and he is not a knockdown shooter, but when things get tight, he brings a toughness and savvy that you need off the bench, and he is not afraid to take (and hit) big shots.
