hard to believe Melo is on the table but he'd be a big chip to get Howard.
Melo + Lin and extra pieces for salary/talent
for DH, Jameer and Hedo's contract.
Not sure who'd look appealing to Orlando as a big piece to come in with Melo/Lin but I don't think 2 1st rounder would cut it.
Doesn't work with salaries - the Knicks have 3 big salaries (Melo, Amar'e, Chandler) with Chandler untradeable (not sure why, the Trade Machine has him trade-exempt). They've got Smith at a pro-rated $6 mill, and then a bunch of tiny contracts. So no real room for Orlando to drop Turk in the deal as well.
The most logical way to make this work is Melo for Howard straight-up. Salaries are virtually identical and the Magic won't get a better player for Dwight. I don't think the Knicks would give up much more than that after what they gave Denver for Melo, and knowing that Howard will flee Orlando in the offseason regardless. It would leave the Knicks in even more of a shambles on the wing, but they'd have the best 3-man big rotation in the league.
Interesting idea - it'd be pretty spectacular if it went through.
