Danny is high on the whole top 5 player thing

If we land dwight howard and make a run at the title

If we do win it all, why would Dwight honestly want to leave if we brought him a ring?

If we don't win it all and he does leave, we start from scratch oh well, we were going to anyway with everyone coming off teh book, S&T Dwight for some picks

If we do win it all and he does leave...so what we put up another banner

you could end up with nothing  ::) but that 6 week rental
right now as we sit, draft picks and expiring deals with an all star 25ish point guard and some good young talent

dwight is good and he & rondo would make a pair BUT I'm not ready to over give to get him for a short time, just like the chris paul deal, if he didn't sign extension I would not have done the rondo trade

The only way to be able to compete with the other offers is by using your expiring contracts to take on a bunch of Orlando's terrible contracts like Davis and Richardson.  And, if you do that, and Howard walks (and why would he stay?) then you are in a terrible position going forward.

Stephen A. Smith said Boston would entertain Rajon Rondo & Paul Pierce to get Dwight Howard on Espn 1st take this morning.  Not sure what kinda SF or PG we would get backalong with D-12 but that is what he said almost like he heard it through the Ainge camp.

I would rent D-12 for Paul Pierce & a 1st. But Rajon can't be included. He is our only trade asset to get a Deron Williams in the summer to provide the adequate shooting needed to play with Howard. And Ray would need to be resigned as well. KG's lifespan in the league would be extended & he could live just shooting jumpers & playing defense.

The only reason we don't rent Dwight Howard is because we don't have the pieces to acquire him.

Any talk of "we shouldn't include Rondo without an extension" or anything like that doesn't make any sense to me.  We have Howard and his Bird rights.  We could (and would) then add Deron and would be set for the next five years.

Well, Rondo + Pierce makes sense for a couple of reasons:

1) Bradley at point, with Garnett + Howard underneath would be disruptive. Bradley eats up seconds on the shot clock on defense, and then when you get into your sets - Garnett + Howard.

2) We would have something like $52M in cap room next year, that's enough to give Howard the 5 year extension, sign D-Will for the max, and still have enough left over to sign 2-4 good players. Or, try for a "Big 3" with Eric Gordon.

Beasley could look good next to Howard, although I'm not sure where he gets the minutes over Garnett. I like him less at SF, although we do need the scoring.

The Problem with this scenario is that Howard and Deron Williams have made their choice of destination relatively clear, and Boston wasn't it.

If they wanted to build a super team and didn't care about locale, it would be an amazingly smart move to trade both Boston all stars for Howard, and then with all the summer cap room snag Williams and Eric Gordon and have a very balanced Big 3. Just add on the cheap a workmanlike PF and a decent SF who can defend, and you have a title contender for the next half decade.

The main problem with this type of trade (Rondo and Pierce for Howard) is that Orlando doesn't want it.

Says who? What's their alternative? What if they lose Howard for nothing?

I think they'd take Bynum first, or Lopez + Brooks + lottery pick.

If this deal was on the table, Danny would take it in a second.
