The main problem with this type of trade (Rondo and Pierce for Howard) is that Orlando doesn't want it.

Says who? What's their alternative? What if they lose Howard for nothing?

I think they'd take Bynum first, or Lopez + Brooks + lottery pick.

If this deal was on the table, Danny would take it in a second.

I'm not so certain. Bynum's nice, but he does have the knee issues The Magic's owner says he wants veteran players so that would push Rondo & Pierce ahead of the NJ deal.

The only thing the Celtics can provide to the Magic is long term salary relief and why on earth would the Celtics take on Hedo, Richardson, and Big Baby for a 6 month rental of Dwight.

The Celtics are not a realistic trade partner for Orlando.  Period.  End of discussion.  Move on.
2025 Historical Draft - Cleveland Cavaliers - 1st pick

Starters - Luka, JB, Lebron, Wemby, Shaq
Rotation - D. Daniels, Mitchell, G. Wallace, Melo, Noah
Deep Bench - Korver, Turner

  • Boston Celtics= Championships, nothing less.
There's one problem with this suggestion.

"Paul Pierce +Rajon Rondo for Dwight Howard".

That would be a hilarious joke to Orlando fans.

It's March first, not April first guys.
"We are lucky we have a very patient GM that isn't willing to settle for being good and coming close. He wants to win a championship and we have the potential to get there still with our roster and assets."

quoting 'Greg B' on RealGM after 2017 trade deadline.
Read that last line again. One more time.

I'm sure the Magic would want teams to take on salary, but what if we would offer Rondo, Pierce, both our 1st rd draft picks, and say Johnson, for Howard & Nelson? It's not a bad deal for either team. They would add 2 all-stars, they remain competitive, ticket sales wouldn't exactly plummet, and they would acquire a couple of first rd picks as well.

It would be shortsighted to dismiss it all together.

If they can get this done without giving up Rondo then I say do it by any means.  We have literally nothing to lose at this point.

That trade is terrible for Orlando, which is why it won't happen.  I mean seriously they could get Bynum and picks right now from the Lakers, Brook Lopez, Brooks, 2 firsts (far better than the C's), and possibly Humphries from NJ.  And countless other trades that far surpass what Boston can offer.

Boston is not a trading partner for Orlando where Dwight Howard is concerned.

See, but that is what you would want if you were the owner or GM of the Magic. However, we have to go by what has been reported to interest the Magic.

Sources familiar with Orlando’s thinking say that a picture of what the Magic will ultimately expect in return for their anchor has indeed begun to emerge, telling ESPN.com this week that Orlando would not hold out for youth and draft picks as the league-owned New Orleans Hornets were ordered to do in the Chris Paul sweepstakes. The Magic, sources say, would instead prefer to bring back multiple established veterans who can keep the team competitive.

Reason being: Orlando has moved into a new arena last season and has an 85-year-old owner in Rich De Vos. Sources say De Vos has little interest in starting over/rebuilding, as evidenced by the recent decisions to trade for Glen “Big Baby” Davis and re-sign Jason Richardson even though Howard’s future is so murky.

So which one of these packages best applies to what the Magic are looking for?

Bynum
Both their 1st Rd Picks this year (Dallas & their own)

Lopez (restricted FA that they might have to get into a bidding war for)
Humphries (FA)
Brooks (Rookie)
Both their 1st Rd Picks this year (Houston top 14 protected and their own)

Rondo
Pierce
Johnson
Both their 1st Rd Picks this year (LAC and their own)
