Reading Real GM is hard on the brain cells.

The idea on the front page is awful, one of the worst trade ideas ever on this board.

No chance. Williams isn't that useful, the Knicks pick won't be that great, Thabeet isn't that useful, and Scola will not help "monumentally" with rebounding, he's averaging under 6 rebounds a game in 30 minutes for Houston right now.

  • You ain't the boss of the freakin' bedclothes.
I would however trade rondo for Lowry, a young rotation player (parsons, or Budinger would be groovy) and a 1st.

Edit: they wouldn't, but I would.

There's a shocker!

Ha, fair point. But, are you saying you'd pass on the deal?

I'd trade Pierce if the deal made sense long-term. I don't think this one does.

What if you could re-route Scola for an expiring contract and another 1st rounder?

I wouldn't trade Pierce to anyone ... he should retire in green, period. I don't ever want to see The Truth in a different uniform, playing against the Celtics. Thirty-four to the rafters.

He will be retired as a Celtic regardless of what team he finishes on.
Of course he will, but he should retire while still in green, and without ever playing for another team. (I think you missed the point I was making). I still have a bad taste in my mouth from the way The Chief retired ... I do NOT want that happening with Pierce, and as I already stated, I don't want to see him playing against the Celtics in another uniform, (and I don't think he does, either).

I don't think they'll do that. While I think Rondo's top 5, they like Lowry and are probably indifferent between Rondo and Lowry.

Some have raised an interesting argument. What if he retires before we even get competitive? I'm still on the fence on whether to trade him or not. I hope he has a big say in it.

Didn't the Lakers just retire Shaq's uniform, after he ended his career with the arch-enemy?  (And didn't we all like him, at least in his first month, despite his storied career with the Evil Empire?).

If the deal is "right", and Pierce approves it, I have no problem trading him....but those are 2 big ifs.  My guess is he stays...

  • Boston Celtics= Championships, nothing less.
I'd move him if we get a nice pick out of it and the contracts
are gone after 2 years. I mean we don't have to trade him by March 15th. He can finish the season here, move to Houston and we begin the re-build and fill up the cap space (which we have to do).
For me, Pierce is just too expensive to keep on any re-tooling, rebuilding plan, he's still a great player, but I think we need to spend the money.
If were are going to blow it up, send him to a contender where he can help them in the play-offs instead of putting up with our garbage for one year- he already did that for 10 years.
He'll always be a Celtic, just like the others who have done similar.
"We are lucky we have a very patient GM that isn't willing to settle for being good and coming close. He wants to win a championship and we have the potential to get there still with our roster and assets."

quoting 'Greg B' on RealGM after 2017 trade deadline.
Read that last line again. One more time.

No. I don't want Scola. What purpose does he serve for the rebuilding process...? Take up cap space? Yeah, NO!

To play devil's advocate; he is a solid veteran and in theory would be a good presence in the locker room. His contract isn't that bad and it helps get you to the salary floor. If you have to spend that money, there are worse choices.

Three ways to answer this question.

1. NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

2. I love Pierce more than 99% of my family and I've never seen him live and I'm not even from Boston. Or US. Or Ireland. And there's a 120% chance 100.000 people love him more than me and they're all from Boston.

3. With a question: Would you trade your father for Hitler?
