Portland - this team is almost an exact duplicate of the real Portland team and for that reason lands here below the difference making superstar teams in the west

"Almost exact duplicate?" Care to clarify?

Brand 32, 10.2 ppg on 46% shooting, 6.7 rpg
Camby, 36, 3.8 ppg on 39% shooting, 9.6 rpg

Both are underrated defenders, with similar steal and block rates, but otherwise I don't see it.

Williams 25, 16.0 ppg on 42% shooting, 38% 3PT%, 3,8 apg, 1 TO
Felton 27, 9.9 ppg on 36% shooting, 21% 3PT%, 6.3 apg, 2.9 TO

Kurt Thomas and Amir Johnson?

How bout that ball movement, there?
As IP points out, Brand and Williams have an ability to score but their downgrade in passing ability from Felton and Camby will probably hinder the other three guys games making the overall net effect about even. Defensively their still about the same and I like Kurt Thomas more than Amir Johnson. Always thought Johnson to be one of the most over rated players in these drafts.

Johnson is a SG and best playing there. He doesn't play physically enough to contain the top 10-12 SFs in the league and has never been able to be the leader your team desperately needs him to be.

One thing that confounds me about this type of draft is the way people draft players who play nearly there entire careers at a position and just move them to another and claim they will be just as effective in that position. There's a reason they play the position they do and there is a reason the have success at that position. Expecting the same results while having to play offense and defense against an entirely different group of players with different skill sets is just not logical to me.

The center position I'll agree to disagree about, but you and IP both seem to feel that Johnson can't play SF and I don't really get that. This year he hasn't been there as much because there's no Jamal Crawford, but last year he spent 1/3 of his minutes at the 3, and defended it excellently (11.6 PER for the opponent at the 2, 12.9 at the 3 - both phenomenal). He was also better offensively at the 3, with a 17.8 PER compared to 15.9. The year before, he played ~25% of his minutes at the 3 and defended it better than he defended the 2, with equal offensive production of over a 20 PER.

It's not like I'm taking a guy who has never played a certain position and arguing that he's going to excel there. I'm taking a guy who historically has played significant minutes at the 3, produced arguably better there than he did at the 2, has an ideal physical makeup for the 3 and has guarded both positions very well in the past. He's obviously spent most of his career as a SG, but it's not like he hasn't proven himself to be equal, if not better, as a SF. I'll accept that it's going to be taxing to play with more physical players most of the time, but the guy is a solid 240 pounds and the strength is offset by the smaller amount of quickness.

Just my thoughts, but luckily in this game we are entitled to our own opinions :P
2023 Historical Draft: Toronto Raptors

Shooting Guard: Paul Westphal, Paul Pressey
Small Forward: Marques Johnson, Danny Granger
Power Forward: Jermaine O'Neal, Bobby Jones, Kiki Vandeweghe
Center: Marc Gasol, Serge Ibaka

I think you kinda nailed it there with the 1/3 thing though.

A lot of players play a small % of their minutes out of position in profitable short-burst lineups. They're strategic mismatches, based on the opposition. Sometimes, Millsap plays the 5. Boozer used to switch to the 5 (and apparently defend it well if Roy is to be believed*). Prince switches to the 2 and the 4 sometimes.

But they didn't spend all of their time there because they were out of position. Asking somebody to do it every night will have unexpected consequences. Sometimes good, sometimes not so good.

Some guys should play another position (and role) in an offense/defense, and are forced out of position due to roster construction (Kaman at the 4 in NO for instance), but I don't think Joe Johnson is one of those guys.

*he's not.

EDIT: And I'm not saying Joe Johnson can't play the 3 full-time, I just think he shouldn't.

You know who's being slept on Golden State? We know we'd beat the overhyped New York Knicks.

Ouch, Rebus.

Solid team. Curry/Harden should pair for a good amount of point/ball movement. Ariza should...really frustrate you some nights and once and a while look really good, David Lee should be David Lee'n all over the place.

I think its a good team.

Draft board should be updated (except the picks already made). So, check your picks, and say something if its wrong.

Welll.....

I got the 6.3 tomorrow. Where should I go with it? Size? Backcourt? Scoring? What are the flaws on the Knicks I can address?

I'd go for outside scoring or a back up for Lowry, but that's just my opinion.  I've already made one bad pick in this draft.

Offering Tay Prince or Brandon Rush + 6.13 for an upgrade over either player (and a later pick).

Who was your big no-no?

EDIT: Ah, Vince Carter. Yeah, that one wasn't a hit with me.
