Portland - this team is almost an exact duplicate of the real Portland team and for that reason lands here below the difference making superstar teams in the west

"Almost exact duplicate?" Care to clarify?

Brand 32, 10.2 ppg on 46% shooting, 6.7 rpg
Camby, 36, 3.8 ppg on 39% shooting, 9.6 rpg

Both are underrated defenders, with similar steal and block rates, but otherwise I don't see it.

Williams 25, 16.0 ppg on 42% shooting, 38% 3PT%, 3,8 apg, 1 TO
Felton 27, 9.9 ppg on 36% shooting, 21% 3PT%, 6.3 apg, 2.9 TO

Kurt Thomas and Amir Johnson?

How bout that ball movement, there?
As IP points out, Brand and Williams have an ability to score but their downgrade in passing ability from Felton and Camby will probably hinder the other three guys games making the overall net effect about even. Defensively their still about the same and I like Kurt Thomas more than Amir Johnson. Always thought Johnson to be one of the most over rated players in these drafts.

That is some nickpicking.

I know Nick is a Felton fan, but for the record he was wrong and Raymond's 2009-10 shooting was an aberration after all. The guy is a poor shooter posting career worsts. He's barely managing to score 10 points on 10 shots, he's shooting 37% from the field and 22% from behind the arc. This is on a TrailBlazers team otherwise playing at a high level but desperate for a reliable second scoring option behind Aldridge.

The argument is that the loss of 1.8 assists (and 1.7 TOs by the way) per 36 minutes counterbalances major improvement in the team's offensive efficiency: +8.1 points per 36, a .533 TS% vs .442% TS%, and almost triple the FTA.

Or that replacing a sub-40% shooting center and the second lowest scoring starter in the NBA (Camby is edging out Joel Anthony's 3.3 by 0.3 points per game) with a steady 10 points on 46% is evened out by Camby's, admittedly nice, 2.2 assists per?

Kurt Thomas over Amir Johnson however I cannot argue. I regretted it immediately. As I'm sure Nick now regrets taking Brandon Bass with Jason Collins still on the board.

Don't sweat Nick's rankings.  Just sit back and laugh at the chances of LeBron and a bunch of role players being the most dangerous playoff team in the West.
Yeah, don't take my opinions personally. They are any better or worse than anyone else's opinions. They are just mine.

I guess I could have critiques each one of those 16 teams separately and not ranked them but it wouldn't change what I was saying.

Just to clear things up, I took nothing said personally. I was only pointing out where you were wrong.  ;)

Anybody still up? Here is my first draft of the Eastern Rankings. Although a lot is still to be settled in Rounds 6 & 7. (Some may just like to rank NBA stars, but personally I place a lot of importance on the whole top eight rotation.)

1. Miam Heat - Living in the shadow of the 2010-11 Pick Two Heat, but still the best in the east. Turns out Lebron James is a good trade chip. Nash elevates the team's play but at 38 also nearly closes the team's window. And lack of a starting calibre power forward could open the door for…

2. Orlando Magic - A far better big man rotation than Miami, a far better backcourt than New York, a better bench than either team.

3a. New York Knicks - All anybody wants to know is how did IP not KEEP Jeremy Lin?! As in Orlando, teams can allow Howard to get his and focus on stopping a trio of third option scorers. Prince was one of the steal's of the draft, but Rush isn't a starting two guard and the team has no bench yet.

3b. Atlanta Hawks - Best defense in the league? Can that and top tier talent and long arms and leaping overcome the fact that I don't want to watch anyone in the starting five take a 20' jumper? Jamal Crawford is drooling in anticipation.

5. New Jersey Nets - Prokhorov's money well spent - a complementary top seven, a clear pecking order. Deron Williams' eyes are misting up he's so relieved.

6. Indiana Pacers - Winner by default. Wilson Chandler is meeting with the Denver front office on Monday. But I'm not comfortable with Derrick Williams as a starter. There are at least three playoff spots up for grabs at this point.

7. Detroit Pistons - On talent alone, this is a top eight team in the East, particularly given other teams' injuries or roster holes. Monroe AND Cousins. Then again these seven guys are not winning a lot of basketball games right now. Imaging this team on the court is more like failing to see the shapes hidden within a "Magic Eye" painting.

8. Cleveland Cavaliers - An almost exact copy of the actual Cleveland Cavailers. Ought to have drafted Jason Collins. But I can't in good conscience rank them any lower.

Team's I cannot reckon with, include: the Toronto Raptors who have a playoff team if Bogut or maybe even just Bargnani and Gooden were healthy.

I wouldn't say Amar'e, Thomas, Anderson, Vucevic is FAR better than Gortat, Favors, Haslem, Mozgov. Better, maybe. But not enough to offset the difficulties on the wings. But then again that's probably why you had us ranked first. Thank you for that!

Sidenote: It's not that Favors isn't a starting calibre PF, it's that he's on a team with Millsap and Al Jefferson both of whom would start over Anderson, Thomas and Vucevic as well.

Why do I get the feeling there will be a lot of skipped picks today?

I wonder how many folks have today off?  Does anybody get President's Day off other than teachers and other government workers?  Do private union workers get it off?  I honestly have no idea.

I've got the day off, but offered to work anyways for flex hours.

So who is ready for me to do a completely unnecessary reach with 6.3 because I've talked myself into picking a guy I don't need to?
