First, if he's going to trade to try to win he needs to do it so the new players know the system by playoffs.
I think the best trade f he's going to get ride of Rondo is the Nash/Gorta idea thats been floating around. That gives them a better chance than the Gasol trade. Not only do you get a good passing PG. but he opens the floor. Only problem is Chicago. But if Denge isn't healthy by that point, Peirce will have a great series, and you can let Rose get 40 as long as every one else gets shut down.
Second would be if he's going to blow it up. do it now, get certain players you can trade to contending teams, get some picks and start rebuilding next year with the deep draft. Some of the picks could even be for some vet players so they have a nice mix next year, and the year after pick up some more of the FA's in the heave 2013 FA season.
Now I love the team, but you can tell things aren't right. Maybe theres a trade going down and thats why the team has no energy and why Ray and Rondo haven't played well.
The other thing is, that Rondo is NOT a great half court PG. He's at his best in the fast break, his passes are insane at times. But you get him in the half court it slows WAY down and some of his passes gets picked off. And ball movement slows down because they run too many plays for Ray, and it takes 15 seconds to run it. Players need to move and drive to the hoop so Ray's defender looses him trying to help out in the team defense.
This is why Nash would be good for this year, but then we loose some youth. But then we do get a solid center. This is why DA needs to figure out what he wants to do. Go for it this year, or go for it in 3-5 years. Its why no trade would be perfect, we either loose a player we love, or watch a up and down season.
So if they can't move Rondo. They need to move other players for younger legs. Last night I saw a couple times Rondo running half speed with the ball waiting for everyone else. Thats not fun to watch.
But at the end of the Day my hear wants to see this team in the playoffs. I like their chances against any one. It just depends on what team shows up. The pounding of Orlando team, or the getting pounded by Toronto team.
