The Rockets still are interested in acquiring Pau Gasol and they would likely be willing to trade Kevin Martin and Luis Scola, according to sources.

But the Lakers are unlikely to move Gasol without acquiring a point guard back in return and Houston isn't interested in trading Kyle Lowry.

... Add your garbage Rondo speculation.  Presumably in this garbage hypothetical, the Celtics would take back Scola and Martin.  Both have been terrible.  I should know... I have both of those losers on my fantasy bball team.  Lol.   Overpaid, old bums.  I've gone at lengths to describe why the Hornets dodged a massive bullet by avoiding Scola/Odom and Martin.

But somewhere some green-eyed Celtic fan is going to sell herself on this being "more smoke" and this being a good idea.

This would be terrible. Even with we get Lowry, Martin doesn't really solve anything with our wing rotation and Scola is another power forward who can't rebound.
2023 Historical Draft: Toronto Raptors

Point Guard: Anfernee Hardaway, Fat Lever, Terrell Brandon
Shooting Guard: Paul Westphal, Paul Pressey
Small Forward: Marques Johnson, Danny Granger
Power Forward: Jermaine O'Neal, Bobby Jones, Kiki Vandeweghe
Center: Marc Gasol, Serge Ibaka

Agreed.  I wanted to get a jump on things before someone presented it as a good idea.

It makes no sense for us for the same reason it made no sense for the Hornets.  You're taking on salary to do it.  Martin is on the books for 12.5 mil next year.  He's a one-dimensional shooter (we already have one of those) who is averaging 4 points over his last 4 games.   Scola is on the books for 9.4 mil next year, 10.2 mil the year after and 11 mil in 2014/15. That's a lot of jingle to commit to a 31 year old who gives you 15 points and 6 rebounds (probably less on Boston) with very little defense.

I'd trade Rondo for Lowry/Dalembert. Although that seems like a steal for us.

Yeah, like the Hornets, I'd rather rebuild than take on Martin and Scola for the next few years.  Those guys are decent enough players, but they are complementary pieces at best.

I'd be interested in this trade also.

If they really want to get rid of Dalembert that badly, would they entertain Rondo + JO for those two? Crazier things have happened. Salaries seem to match up.

Kinda didn't expect that Simmons would be the first to run with it...

for instance, maybe it could be a three-teamer with Pau Gasol and Keyon Dooling going to Houston; Luis Scola, Goran Dragic, Kyle Lowry and L.A.'s 2012 no. 1 going to Boston; and Rondo and Jermaine O'Neal going to the Lakers. He needs a change of scenery, and really, so might Celtics fans. I can't watch another 84-82 game with his guy playing five feet off him. I really can't. Enough already.

What's the big fascination with rebuilding? I don't get it. Didn't we get enought of that with the horrid teams from 2005-2007, pre-KG?

because rebuilding is much, much more likely to result in getting a real franchise player and meaningful post-season success with the chance at a title than compiling mid level assets and competing for a low playoff seed for years and years on end.

Whether you like it or not... this team is already in rebuilding mode.  We're not good enough to win a title and our best players are getting worse...  if you want a decade of mediocrity, you stand pat and bleed out slowly...   if you want a chance at recovery within the next 5 years, you blow this thing up, stack young assets, draft picks and cap space and hope for the best.

  • GOT IT!!!
What realistic assets can the C's get for Rondo? His stock has to be at it's lowest since first arriving in Boston right now. I feel his days in green are numbered and he probably does too.
