Big day for UMass and new head coach Charlie Molnar, as it rolls out its first recruiting class for its first FBS season. I am sure the Minutemen are going to take some lumps the first few years, but I am looking forward to the increased competition.

I will say though BC vs Umass games at Gillete in a few years will be pretty sweet.  It will be nice to go to gillete for football and be able to get out of the parking lot in less than 5 hours

  • What a Pub Should Be
All BC needs itself is QB, RBs, WRs, TE, DL, LBS, DBS, P, and Ks plus a new head coach.

They'll do fine.   ::)

They're making substantial renovations to McGuirk stadium and anticipate it being ready to go in 2014.  I don't know if you've ever been to a game there (pictured below), but personally my high school football team played in a better stadium.

You cannot expect to compete at the D1 level playing infront of 15,000 people and with very poor infrastructure and accommodations.  The temporary move to Gillette will be a tough transition, but a necessary one.

As of this morning, the Minutemen have 8 verbals, including 1 3-star.

Going to be a tough year for UMass. Going from the penthouse to the outhouse, but when you take a look at the rest of the MAC, they really arent that far behind.  There are 5 teams in the MAC with 2 or fewer 3-star commitments as of now.

I grew up a mile away from this stadium.  Too bad I can't just ride my bike there, lock it up to a fence and slip inside to watch Marcel Shipp anymore.  But from the new renderings, it looks like they're just adding seats above one endzone and the luxury boxes in the other?  That's taking 2 years to build?

  • I'm a Paul Heyman guy.
Really excited/worried about my team Stanford Cardinal. Not only do they need to replace Andrew Luck, they got a few 4 star prospects hanging an thinking where to go. Well as long as they don't go to Cal I guess I'm good.

My son is finishing up his last year there and I did see a couple of games in that..ahem...stadium. I was more comfortable watching football at Everett High. And I think Everett High drew a larger crowd.

If they are taking a bulldozer to that stadium and starting from scratch, then they will never be considered a big time football school. They are just joking themselves.

Yeah i guess the renovations essentially equate to a small building behind the end zone and some press boxes.

Maybe the administration is planning to see how this transition goes and whether it's worth investing in a new stadium.  As the basketball team has seen, it's possible to get a fanatic atmosphere at UMass, it just will take nothing short of a herculean effort (or just plain old cheating haha.)
