That SI cover is top 10, definitely!!  :D
Stay classy, San Diego. Hello, Baxter? Baxter, is that you? Bark twice if you're in Milwaukee. Is this Wilt Chamberlain? Have the decency to say something.

If anyone has any other greats who played in the ABA and NBA, it would be great to measure up their combined stats as well.

Well, technically you're not counting anyone else's ABA stats, but point taken =).

I love how the Big 3 are all on course to be top-20 (19, 24 and 30 right now)... possibly even close to top-15 depending on how many games left in them...

Top five?

Bill Russell
Michael Jordan
Larry Bird
Magic Johnson
Wilt Chamberlain
Oscar Robertson
Kareem Abdul-Jabbar

In my mind, those guys are all above Dr. J.  Then, there are guys like Shaq, Duncan, Jerry West, Hakeem, etc., that belong in the same conversation, and probably are higher.

I don't think the ABA was a comparable level of competition to the NBA.  Erving's worst ABA season is better than his best NBA season.  That doesn't mean his numbers should be ignored (the guy was obviously a dominant player), but I don't think three ABA MVPs equates to three NBA MVPs.

Probably top 20: definitly not better then Hondo. Havlicek at 37 held him in check in 1977. playoffs at Dr.J's peak.
Better players: C- Russ, Wilt, KAJ, Hakeem, Shaq, Moses
PF: Duncan, Pettit
SF: Bird, Hondo, Baylor, Pippen
SG: Jordan, West, Kobe
PG: Magic, Oscar, Stockton, Cousy, Thomas

Dr.J is in a level of Mailman, Sir Charles, KG, McHale, Robinson, Ewing, Pierce...

No way is he top five.  He would be hard pressed to be top five in his era even.  ABA most definitely, NBA not so much.

Big problem Erving was not a SG, he was a SF.  He never won an NBA ring without Malone.
